Just got a CDR from a friend of an 1980's new waveish band called Von LMO. Anyone know anything about them? They are quite good, but I can't seem to dig up much info on them.

all i know is that they have a 7" on the spanish label munster called 'be yourself' which features mr. alan vega. according to the sleeve, it's taken from the von lmo anthology 'tranceformer : future language 2.001' on munster (mr217). wild stuff!

stirmonster, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

von lmo is a man -- he was in red transistor with rudolph grey. after that band broke up he formed another band, which he lead and recorded the all time classic Future Language, disappearing until reappearing again in the nineties and put out a few compilations of older stuff and reissuing Future Language on Flemish Masters. The Stirring Monster is correct -- Munster just reissued it with more tracks than the Flemish Masters reissue.

he toured the USA in 1993 or 94 with Liquorball (heavy duty Oakland punk-psych). His video compilation is truly incredible.

gygax, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my friend doug who usedta sometimes played with liquorball saw von lmo shooting up in an alley outside the club they were playing at! yeah "cool".

he claims to be about 100 years old & that he has discovered the secret of reversing the aging process or something.

more here.

i just remembered this: didn't he also claim to have drummed for jimi hendrix's week long club stay in NYC? i could have sworn that i read that/heard that about 10 years ago.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 May 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah that's true too....there's a crazy interview with him from PUNK magazine (it's in the coffee table book anthology thing) where he talks about stuff like "strange chemicals on stamps to dull the human brain"

duane, Monday, 26 May 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"i live in my own dimension, my own reality...i've been breaking rules since birth. music is murder. without murder there can be no music. death is music is murder. back in primitive times, cavemen would bang on rocks after their wife or son passed away. a severe accident, perhaps a dinosaur tragedy...they would bang on rocks...make rock'n'roll."

duane, Monday, 26 May 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the all time classic Future Language

That's for goddamn sure. Weird and wonderful as anything else. Another reissue? Hmmm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 May 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"perhaps a dinosaur tragedy" is i think the most perfect four-word phrase achievable in english

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:26 (eighteen years ago)

Is this band good, Colonel Poo?

I sure dig Tim Ellison's festival of capital letters above.

Bimble, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:28 (eighteen years ago)

FUCK YEAH!

Get Tranceformer/Future Language. Took me a while to find it but in the end I found it on Amazon somewhere.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'll check it out on s111sk, thanks!

Bimble, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:34 (eighteen years ago)

Hey how come you're awake, Colonel? Usually the Brits leave me lonely about this time of day.

Bimble, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

Drunk, innit

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

You freakin' betcha. In fact, sometimes it's ME at ungodly night hours waitin' for the Brits to wake up!

Bimble, Saturday, 23 June 2007 02:47 (eighteen years ago)

Woah about that story in the liner notes to Future Language with him tryin to fight some dudes after busting his leg in half, jumping off a car on PCP or whatever.

gnarly sceptre, Sunday, 24 June 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

future language is good but red resistor crushes.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Monday, 25 June 2007 01:27 (eighteen years ago)

that's a weird choice!

Tim Ellison, Monday, 25 June 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

red resistor is, actually, very good, but i don't know how much i was into his band at that time.

i listened to Future Language this morning. i can see why peeps like it, but just wasn't my thing. mostly because i'm a sissy.

but a friend recently gave me side project Movie Viewers. i was trying to digitize it and found a song i liked, and then recorded it, and when i relistened to it, didn't really like it. then i was just reading that it was recorded with a 'double groove'. depending on where you lay the needle, you'll get a different song. pretty amazing.

jaxon, Thursday, 20 December 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

I have that movie viewers thing, so confusing. And how's it related to Von Lmo?

dan selzer, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not really sure. Tim Ellison told me one time

jaxon, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Otto Von Ruggins is part of Von LMO

jaxon, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

oh, another weird thing about this record is it says it's 45rpm, but it's not

jaxon, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

I guess he plays on Future Language or something? Von LMO is the guy's name.

dan selzer, Thursday, 20 December 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I could find my copy of Motorbooty that had an interview with him. When I saw it, I assumed that it was just another MB hoax.
