The young Brooklyn musician whose head was impaled on a steel fence after he fell from a balcony finally was able to sleep Sunday - a day after surviving the bizarre accident, his mother said.Nicholas Blossom, 26, a rock drummer who lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was cut away from the fence by rescue workers early Saturday morning after plummeting from a Chelsea balcony during a party.
Surgeons at Bellevue Hospital removed the rod that was still stuck in his head.
"Yesterday, they did not want him to go to sleep, so he was in a lot of pain, but they upped his medication today because they decided he'd improved enough that he can sleep today," said his mother, Emily Blossom, from her home in Berkeley, Calif. "He'll be in the ICU for a week."
She said her husband, Eric, who flew to New York immediately after the incident, holds the phone up to Nicholas' ear, allowing them to have short conversations.
Nicholas was in stable condition Sunday in Bellevue's intensive care unit.
"It's hard, but we have been really impressed with the care he's been getting in New York City. People have really been there for him," his mother said.

It sounds to me from this article like his head was actually impaled.
