It's been seven hours and fifteen days... since someone last made that joke

FYI - it's Prince's bday today

BlackIronPrison, Monday, 7 June 2010 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

not my intention for the thread, but couldn't find one for him. he's been remixing quite a bit over the last few years, his No Comprendo mixes are pretty great and his Editions Disco releases were all really good.

figured he might deserve he own thread by now

ashra williams (san frandisco), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

that said, i did see purple rain projected at the hollywood cemetary a week or so ago, it was pretty epic

ashra williams (san frandisco), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

almost like a concert, people raised their lighters at the end for purple rain

ashra williams (san frandisco), Wednesday, 9 June 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)

his recent von spar remixes are great and the edit he did of ahmed fakroun is very very worth tracking down. thanks for linking to the mix!

156, Wednesday, 9 June 2010 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

yeah he also has a newish one out on editions of lindsey buckingham "trouble"

ashra williams (san frandisco), Thursday, 10 June 2010 00:23 (fifteen years ago)

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 10 June 2010 08:17 (fifteen years ago)

It is really good!

Maybe we could start putting together a track listing?

micarl, Thursday, 10 June 2010 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

track 2: linkwood & house of traps: barely eagle (what a monster of a track this is too!)

at 12:00: something by Jacques Renault off the OTP Party Breaks 2

Tonight I Dine on Turtle Soup (EDB), Thursday, 10 June 2010 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

(0:00) (probably) kza - capricorn (or the original with some vocals. or another edit of that song)
(4:30) linkwood - barely eagle
(9:43) jacques renault - miranda (from otp party breaks 2)
(15:45) ?
(21:53) shit robot - i got a feeling (might be another unknown song before this actually)
(25:54) (some edit of) chemise - she can't love you
(32:25) ?
(37:30) ?
(42:40) ? (it's a mean world...)
(46:30) ?
(51:33) gary low - i want you (aka the song washed out sampled)
(58:30) ? (my favorite of the unknowns)

does that look semi-accurate so far?

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 10 June 2010 19:22 (fifteen years ago)

micarl, Friday, 11 June 2010 05:01 (fifteen years ago)

i have a prince language mix from a few years back, "real music for real people" (awful title!). really good mix, lots of neo-soul tracks, but i guess he doesm't play much of that these days.

^^ cool mix

haven't heard much of his edit series or remixes iirc

one time gaffled 'em up (one time), Friday, 11 June 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

I don't think I realized "DJ Language" and "Prince Language" were the same guy. Looks like they are.

The Negroclash mix CD that him and Du4ne Harri0tt and DJ Linds3y released is one of my faves, weird that I can't find it on discogs (or anywhere really).

All of his edits on Editions Disco are cool. He did a nice dubby remix of The Rapture's "Get Yourself Into It" (their last really good song imo). Remix of Happy House is ok but not better than the og.

dmr, Friday, 11 June 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

i really like his "45:33" remix, it might actually be my favorite out of that series

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Friday, 11 June 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

same, I think. really like his Happy House remix too, which is good, but not better than the og because for it to be better than the og would just a titanically unimaginable feat.

Tonight I Dine on Turtle Soup (EDB), Friday, 11 June 2010 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

all of his No Comprendo mixes are really great too, available on lovefingers iirc

ashra williams (san frandisco), Saturday, 12 June 2010 01:00 (fifteen years ago)

Loads of his edits/remixes here...

awhile back, i did a two-part interview with Language. as one might expect from the name, he's an eloquent chap.

beta blog, Saturday, 12 June 2010 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

(9:43) jacques renault - miranda (from otp party breaks 2)

isnt this just a dub of 'yolanda'

its like why GROCERY BAG and not saddam? (deej), Saturday, 12 June 2010 17:17 (fifteen years ago)

probably, it is an edits records.

Tonight I Dine on Turtle Soup (EDB), Saturday, 12 June 2010 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

its funny when the songs go by diff edit names i just assume i have no idea about music any more & really they're all just dubs & shit of stuff i know

its like why GROCERY BAG and not saddam? (deej), Saturday, 12 June 2010 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

not that i know most of this mix im just sayin

Kaiser Size, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 08:28 (fifteen years ago)

Love this mix!

Has a kind of Classic Records-ish vibe about it. So detailed-yet-jacking at times.

Tim F, Tuesday, 15 June 2010 11:43 (fifteen years ago)

the straight-ahead mix would prob be cool, but that french kiss mix? no thanks.

one time gaffled 'em up (one time), Friday, 30 July 2010 18:07 (fourteen years ago)

Does anyone know what track is playing about two thirds into the no comprendo 4 mix where there's a sample of someone going "music, music" with grunt sounds underneath?

There's Money To Be Made in Ice Cream (EDB), Friday, 30 July 2010 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

could be Blunted Dummies - "House For All"?

Time to move on folks.

Hinklepicker, Saturday, 31 July 2010 10:57 (fourteen years ago)

do u know what this thread is abt

just sayin, Saturday, 31 July 2010 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

two months pass...

still in awe of this mix even tho i've listened it to death. did ID a new track tho, the DJ Duke at 37 min

(25:54) (some edit of) chemise - she can't love you
(32:25) kaos - Panopeeps
(37:30) DJ duke - can you feel it (edit or remix, maybe? not sure on the version of this one)
(42:40) mark IV - it's a mean world (remix/dub/edit of some kind)
(46:30) ?
(51:33) gary low - i want you (aka the song washed out sampled)
(58:30) bubble club - violet morning moon (eric duncan remix)

ashra williams (san frandisco), Monday, 18 October 2010 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

Yes! That DJ Duke track was probably the part of the mix I've gone back over the most. And believe you me, I wore this mix thin this summer (and never got even a bit sick of it).

The Flamoboyant Magic of Gunter and Ernst (EDB), Monday, 18 October 2010 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

nine months pass...

With 4 months to go his Into the Night remix is my track of the year.

^^^^^^^^

puerile fantasies (Matt P), Monday, 15 August 2011 18:35 (thirteen years ago)

Technically released last year, but yes, I've listened to it a lot his year. I love the not-so-subtle allusions to Ralphi Rosario's "You Used To Hold Me"

ha ha ha ha jack my swag (boxedjoy), Monday, 15 August 2011 18:47 (thirteen years ago)

I can't count how many times I've listened to it in the last week*. In fact, at this point I kind of have to stop myself, the track just affects me too much, it literally is nearly overwhelming.

* the only reason I found it this late is that, when rushing to the internet after hearing it out, I'd always get the (fairly lackluster [in my opinion]) original, or the (outright lackuster) Jaar remix. Had I known the prince did a mix I'd have jumped on it immediately. The man has a magic touch.
