"What's it like to be a loon? I liken it to a ballon." Well, it's not the best, but it's my favorite right now.

Best is probably "I drive a rolls royce/Cause it's good for my voice".

Balloon! Balloon! I liken it to a BALLOON!

Arthur, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Always thought that line was a bit odd. ;-)

"20th century boy/I wanna be YOUR TOY!" -- from you know where. More the way it's sung than anything else.

"Hey little punk/forget all that junk" -- from "Celebrate Summer." It's so sweet and innocent, sorta.

"John Lennon knows your name/And I've seen his" -- "Ballrooms of Mars," The Slider -- not strictly speaking a couplet, but who cares? ;-)

"Rocking in the nude/I'm feeling such a dude" -- "Rip-Off," Electric Warrior -- it doesn't get any more joyously ridiculous. Lenny Kravitz would kill for those lines.

Just like a car/ You're pleasing to behold/ I'll call you Jaguar/ If I may be so bold/

For shame how could you forget the rhyming of

"Oh Debera/ you look like a zebera"

I bet he know some hippie chick called Debera who he fancied.

Andrew L, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

"baby I've got metal knees ooh/lady I'm beggin' of you please"
and
"baby you think you're a champ but/girl you ain't nothing' but a raw ramp"

both from "Raw Ramp"
loon/balloon probably his best ever, tho

Supergrass is now recording in Paris at Studio Tricatel, will be interesting to see how this affects their T. Rex leanings...

Haha! Love the "I Wanna Call Ya! I Wanna Ball Ya! Aw-haw-all night lo-oo-oong!," bit! Classic cheese and classic sleeze! No-one ever did it better or worse! Eat your heart out mid-eighties buttrock!
But,,no-one mentioned:

"Girl I'm just a vampire for your lu-u-uv. An I'm gonna Suck ya!"
-Jeepster. Love it! Love it! Classic no-brain rock n roll soul.

Believe me Pope Paul, my toes are clean

and

The curfew comes at the crack of night
The sad old wino aches to disipate the fright
A jet-jump jiver speeds past in his machine

Whatever happened to the teenage dream? Probably his best lyric, apart from maybe Dandy in the underworld.

ant, Thursday, 1 June 2006 10:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I only recently discovered this magnificent example, from "Sitting Here":

Love's a wonderful thing that comes and goes
Even when I’m picking my nose

!
