That Roogalator cover is awes, are they any good?

disastrous sixth series (MaresNest), Monday, 14 June 2010 13:52 (fifteen years ago)

It's sort of "good time boogie" in a JoolzHolland way, but better.

I sort of was prompted to start this by that "revisiting music 20 years on" thread, these are all from 1976 (yeah, 35 years morelike, but hey I haven't heard them for about 20)

The Tyla band is kinda like Dr John meets Captain Beefheart.

Not tried this before... Spotify for all but one track listed

How is this anything but Nick Lowe by a landslide?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 14 June 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)

Because of the Pink Fairies?

Tyla Gang were good. I like the B-side better on that single tho.

I got one cheap on ebay, and discovered I like it more now...

I amused our Amber by singing "Styrofoam" at her in Hobbycraft.

A couple days later, played her the single.

Amused, all over again.

More appreciation.

(For the singles, not me)

There is a well of opinion that the Damned's "New Rose" was the first punk single. but if you see the deadwax engraving on BUY2, you will see "A Bilbo punk boppa"...

OK.

Couldn't be anything else really, although the Pink Fairies is ok. I suspect it's probably one of the best singles to kickstart a label too, which would make a good poll if someone's willing to do the legwork.

Well, it seems the Nick Lowe single wasn't a big seller at the time, whereas the Fairies single sold bigtime.

Of course, they all sold out of their original pressings, and when the label signed with Island, they all got deleted. I remember seeing most (if not all) of them in that very small record shop just off Carnaby Street, but a mate was all "you don't want any of that, that's all that punk crap" (he recanted this opinion about 2 months later), so I didn't get any, and the next time I went there, they were all gone.

three weeks pass...

Doh, I missed this poll. Would have voted for Nick Lowe, so no probs. LOVE LOVE LOVE "Boogie On The Street" though.
