"Jesus of Cool" for you UK ILMers.

Anyway, I listened to this one for the first time in years just this week. Was quite pleasantly surprised about how well it's stood up and how much I like it. And I just found out that "Marie Provost" not only was a real person, but the story about the dog eating her leg was real!

Bought this one on CD back in the late Eighties, during a brief Elvis Costello phase of mine. I suspect I haven't listened to it all that much because I'm not really into the pub/roots-rock stuff. Aside from this album, Lowe kinda strikes me as being the UK's John Fogerty -- very good if you like this kind of thing, but not of much appeal otherwise.

This one, though, was nice because it's heavy on the late Seventies pop, with nicely snarky lyrics, and light on the bar-band stuff. If only the rest of Mr. Lowe's catalogue was this appealling to me (not saying it's bad -- it isn't -- but just doesn't appeal much to me).

one month passes...
Is "Pure Pop..." a greatest hits? I can't stop listening to "Labour of Lust". It does have some roots-rock leanings, but also very poppy.
