Bolan, in a 1971 interview contained on the Rhino Records reissue, said of the album "I think Electric Warrior, for me, is the first album which is a statement of 1971 for us in England. I mean that's... If anyone ever wanted to know why we were big in the other part of the world, that album says it, for me."

What an album, going to think about this one.

Boo Radley (Bee OK), Thursday, 17 June 2010 02:12 (fifteen years ago)

SPectacular record!! This just emphasizes that, at one time, singles were as good as the LP tracks rather than slicked-up, lowest common denominator pandering. I voted "Mambo Sun" but every cut is wonderful.

ImprovSpirit, Thursday, 17 June 2010 15:19 (fifteen years ago)

I always say Planet Queen is my favorite T. Rex song but I should rly think about this...

Loathsome Dov (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 17 June 2010 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

I am going w/"The Motivator" just bcz it is a sentimental favorite & I would be sad if it had a zero next to it come June 22.

"Jeepster" got me laid in high school, so that.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 17 June 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah theyre all good -- voted "monolith," but "mambo sun," "cosmic dancer," "jeepster," and "bang a gong" were all close behind...

exuding an aroma of lolz (Hunt3r), Thursday, 17 June 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

lol, what a song to get laid to!

Boo Radley (Bee OK), Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

It was memorable, to be sure.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 17 June 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

Yikes, this is tough, one of my favourite albums which I still play on a regular basis. Today, I'll vote 'Life's a Gas', though could be any number of the others

I said it on an earlier thread on T-Rex, but the Monolith is a killer tune and that loping beat and the general sound of the track kind of reminds me of trip hop.

earlnash, Friday, 18 June 2010 02:34 (fifteen years ago)

I liken it to a balloon.

ρεμπετις, Saturday, 19 June 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

Somehow I've always thought 'Raw Ramp' was part of this album :P

uh, this was the first record i ever bought. sometime '75-'76ish. haven't listened to all of it for a while now, just a few songs from it on different t.rex comps ...mmm-my vote still goes to "bang a gong".

t**t, Saturday, 19 June 2010 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

Cosmic Dancer, just find it weirdly moving, all songs v. good though.

Mark, Sunday, 20 June 2010 00:54 (fifteen years ago)

finally had a chance to re-listen, album reminds me of Vegas. love Tony Visconti production on this album, it breaths. ended up voting for "Mambo Sun."

Boo Radley (Bee OK), Sunday, 20 June 2010 05:24 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 21 June 2010 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

Jeepster is being underrated here.

ô_o (Nicole), Monday, 21 June 2010 23:21 (fourteen years ago)

Weird results. Just finally got around to listening to this again, and had forotten how much I like "Rip Off." But I don't see how anything else here even comes anywhere near "Bang A Gong" or "Jeepster"; the idea just seems ridiculous to me. Would've voted "Bang A Gong"; would probably rank "Mambo Sun" fourth. "Cosmic Dancer" is okay, I guess.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 00:18 (fourteen years ago)

i named this thread from the main line from "Cosmic Dancer," never thought it would win. i thought "Bang A Gong (Get It On)" would win in a landslide, that is why i overlooked it.

Boo Radley (Bee OK), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 06:12 (fourteen years ago)

i guess this is kinda unwittingly challops but bang a gong was always my least fav on this record, wonder if anyone else is w/me (guessing not)

sleepingbag, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 06:28 (fourteen years ago)

the right song won. i don't think it's such a surprise.

I think my favorite songs on this album are Cosmic Dancer, Monolith, and Planet Queen. Maybe the more it sounds like The Slider, the better.

But really the whole album is excellent.

You know when you've been familiar with an album for like 30 years and then you hear it one day after not hearing it in a while and suddenly begin to appreciate the second-tier songs (Monolith, Lean Woman Blues, The Motivator in this case) in a way you hadn't previously? I love how "Monolith" sounds like it could have been on the Rocky Horror soundtrack

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 24 September 2020 12:32 (four years ago)

I've been revisiting T-Rex recently and although I like the Slider, Tanx and Dandy a lot (I'm less familiar with those in-between), this one is really the perfect T-Rex album for me : the songs, the arrangements, the production/sound... There are some great songs after but as an album it's the apex !
By the way, I have just discovered the demos for the album that was supposed to follow Dandy and there are pretty cool songs ("Shy Boy", "Foxy Boy"...).

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 24 September 2020 13:09 (four years ago)

So OTM about the 2nd-tier songs. Every time I revisit this record I get knocked on my ass by a track I hadnt previously rated.

Fifty years old today. What an album. Never, ever feels musty or overplayed, it just is.

Still think these are my favorites - the laidback, vibey songs.
