I'm burning out the catalog. Looking for something similarly propulsive + long-form + trance-inducing.... Yesterday I ran to that Pharoah Sanders' "Trance Of Seven Colors" thing. But that was yesterday. Thank you!

Ted Nugent works for me:

Theo Parrish mixes work for me.
― admrl, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:42 (fifteen years ago)
I will give the LCD another go. Is there a specific Theo Parrish record I should try?
I was thinking of something more organic, people hitting drums with sticks and hands...some of the longer, double-drummer Fall Peel session tracks have moved me along too.
― Hadrian VIII, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:46 (fifteen years ago)
I guess Theo is SORT OF organic, but prolly you want something else. You could try "These Days And Times".
― admrl, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:48 (fifteen years ago)
Maybe you just want a mix of Konono and TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou. That would be great, actually!
― admrl, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:49 (fifteen years ago)
Maybe not propulsive enough but like some Mainliner or Les Rallizes Denudes could be good. I'd have to try it. maybe not, I dunno
― admrl, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:51 (fifteen years ago)
Actually what about some Boredoms? Super Roots 5 or Super Roots 10 or Rebore?
― admrl, Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:53 (fifteen years ago)
This is fun!
Ok I just sampled Echos Hypnotiques on eMusic and I am all over that. Thanks!
I hadn't even thought to run to Boredoms but yeah those would be good too. Also Konono, although I'm missing some of the distortion/grit on the new one.

lately i have been listening to midtown 120 blues, E2-E4 (cover connection), Pawel and Efdemin, but like CAN srsly
― plax (ico), Saturday, 19 June 2010 23:56 (fifteen years ago)
xpost haha Rallizes would have me wandering off into a gully and just lying there I think. I tried to run to Parson Sound a couple weeks ago and my feet felt super heavy. But maybe that was the hangover.

Can! That's great running music...Jaki should get one of those Nike commissions.

woah, i've run to theo parrish, e2-e4, and super roots 7 just this week! 45:33 has been my go-to for years. i'm reading the murakami book about running and he likes the lovin' spoonful, lol. as far as timing and energy go, 45:33 couldn't be better imo, especially if you need a shot of energy around 17:00. that's when it's totally about people hitting drums with hands and sticks! if you don't hear "organic" than i am sorry for you!

yeah I like the way it builds but I just don't need that dude singing at me in the beginning I guess, telling me not to hide my love from him etc. Chanting and shouting I can run to...MES, James Brown...the Blurt guy. "Singing" not so much.

Mulatu Astatke might be a good choice too. Right now can't get enough of what Sect did on Man of Wisdom with the Yekermo sample:

Been listening to a lot of NOMO during my runs lately.
― righteousmaelstrom, Sunday, 20 June 2010 17:01 (fifteen years ago)
That sounds slightly disgusting. Let me rephrase:
"Lately, I have been listening to a lot of NOMO while running."

rousing rock songs work well, i think, e.g.:
