Not the funkiest summer on record, perhaps, but a memorable one, no? A companion to the 1985 pop singles poll

"Oh Sheila" is still a great Minneapolis wannabe track. Plus, his accent is just magnificent in that "what's good for the goose" bit.

"Cherish" is some repellent shit ("Misled" should have hit #1).

This, however, is a lovely sequence:

(June 15-July 6) Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake) Freddie Jackson
(July 7-13) Hangin' on a String (Contemplating) Loose Ends
(July 14-27) Save Your Love (For #1) René & Angela

I love love love "Oh Sheila"! Second choice would be the Loose Ends track, though.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 June 2010 16:37 (fifteen years ago)

I like most of these! Tempted to go with Rene & Angela, for its Kurtis Blow rap, but Loose Ends gets my vote. Definitely play Rene & Angela's album more than RFTW's (have both as reissue CDs), though I like them both. One of these days I should probably buy a Freddie Jackson best-of.

The problem is, if you weren't listening to black radio in the mid eighties you never heard Rene & Angela. I only got to them a few years ago.

I think this is the elevator music chart. :-)

ImprovSpirit, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

I'd ride in that elevator.
