previously: follow-ups to the U.S. #1s of 2002

caveats and exceptions: the follow-up to the last #1 of the year, Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me,” was already covered in the ‘02 poll, there's no proper follow-up to the superfriends hellmix of “Lady Marmalade,” thank god, and the follow-up to the follow-up to Usher’s “U Remind Me” and the follow-up to the follow-up to J.Lo’s “I’m Real (Murder Remix)” already covered in ‘02 poll

I'm guessing Outkast will take this but for me it's “Someone To Call My Lover” all the way

Hard to argue w/ this one:

Destiny’s Child - “Survivor” (peak: #2, follow-up to: “Independent Women Part 1”)

"Someone To Call Mt Lover" is such an optimistic, exciting little song. I voted for it.

i LOVE "someone to call my lover" so much, voted for that -- def my fav janet single from that album. gymnopedie no 1 in the chorus = amazing. outkast song was not that good but i'm sure it'll get votes because it's outkast (i did like saying "so fresh and so clean clean" quite a bit, though). i liked destiny's child's cover of "emotion" more than the original. "survivor" is a load of horrible shouting, though, plus that line about surrounding yourself with positive things and gaining prosperity is soooooooooo bad. the rest is non-painful except for the crazy town song.

Survivor. Followed by No More Drama.

for me:

no more drama > survivor > someone to call my lover > a woman's worth

plus that line about surrounding yourself with positive things and gaining prosperity is soooooooooo bad

i love that line. "survivor" is a completely ridiculous song that takes itself totally seriously and that's why i love it so.

"no more drama" is probably mary j's best song of the 00s, even one of her best ballads generally. an exorcism.

I like it but I prefer "Be Without You."

o i didn't see outkast - i like "so fresh so clean" a lot, way better than "ms jackson", it's nowhere near "no more drama" tho

xp yeah "be without you" is incredible too

god "survivor" is so insufferable

ripe dick clark (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 June 2010 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

i voted for "so fresh, so clean" (fav single off "stankonia" for the keyboard riff alone) but "a woman's worth" is a close second

I like "Revolving Door" as much, maybe even more, than "Butterfly." So that.
