production on both sound like a fred falke remix

ashra williams (san frandisco), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

they're both 6/10 songs for me but i would give ke$ha the slight edge

teledyldonix, Friday, 25 June 2010 19:02 (fourteen years ago)

"california gurls" easy, would be a total classic with someone else singing (or even perry's voice processed less gratingly)

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

which obv cannot be said for "love is the drug"

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

Both 7/10s for me, and I like Ke$ha more in general, but it's not one of her best songs. Katy's song wins for sounding really hip-house (at least during the Snoop part).

xhuxk, Friday, 25 June 2010 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

lol isn't "love is the drug" a roxy music song? i would like to see ke$ha sing that.

teledyldonix, Friday, 25 June 2010 19:13 (fourteen years ago)

writing on these songs: Ke$ha >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> katy perry (too repetitive and not as clever)

ashra williams (san frandisco), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

The chorus on California Gurls is kind of bland but on the whole it's a much less annoying track. The verses are pretty solid.

......er, Snoop just came on and he's channeling the Slap Chop guy. Kesha it is.

skip, Friday, 25 June 2010 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

as much as I dislike Katy Perry's voice and delivery, when she has a good song they don't bother me too much. I'm not sure Ke$ha's ever had a good song, but even if she did I don't think I'd be able to get past the voice.

writing on these songs: Ke$ha >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> katy perry (too repetitive and not as clever)

ke$ha is clever? she's not even interestingly or entertainingly dumb

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

kesha's drunk skank routine is not entertaining to me but she's got the better chorus

k perry's flirty good girl pin-up routine is not entertaining to me either, but she's got an amazing pre-chorus that's the best thing out of all this. plus, snoop is reliable. so, her.

goole, Friday, 25 June 2010 19:23 (fourteen years ago)

ke$ha is clever? she's not even interestingly or entertainingly dumb

relatively speaking between these two songs, YES. please Katy's lyrics are the most generic boring California girl cliche's i have ever heard

ashra williams (san frandisco), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

anyone know the producers on these tracks?

ashra williams (san frandisco), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

kesha's drunk skank routine is not entertaining to me but she's got the better chorus

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of either but the Kesha song has a better chorus. California Gurls is too generically bland, like the soundtrack to the Bratz cartoon.

ô_o (Nicole), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

How are you going to complain about repetition in "California Girls" when the chorus to "Your Love Is My Drug" goes:

Because your love, your love, your love, is my drug
Your love your love your love
I said your love, your love, your love, is my drug
Your love your love your love

Opinions are a lot like assholes. You've got LOTS of BOTH of them. (HI DERE), Friday, 25 June 2010 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

The fiendish team of Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco for both. Katy's also has Max Martin, while Ke$ha's has someone named Ammo.

It does, doesn't it? Although I'm not really sure how to parse the wrongness.

dr. phil, Friday, 25 June 2010 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

Katy's also has Max Martin

I am so disappointed in him.

ô_o (Nicole), Friday, 25 June 2010 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

@ HI DERE

omg! i didn't even notice! srsly tho, the 2nd verse is super short, then the chorus repeats, then snoop then chorus. just a lil repetitive, there's at least a bridge to ke$ha

ashra williams (san frandisco), Friday, 25 June 2010 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

the slumber party and 808 drum lines are kind of endearing in ke$ha's song. i probably would have voted for katy if the video were any good, though. seriously wtf did they think they were doing

teledyldonix, Friday, 25 June 2010 22:18 (fourteen years ago)

Ke$ha should be burned at the stake imo.

there's this thing about "your love is my drug" where her voice is so strangulated and terrible sounding that it's almost like you're listening a friend that's always in a good mood singing the song

like, i think ke$ha's music would become incredibly powerful if she died tragically

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 3 July 2010 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

No wait, you might want to try to line them and see if you can kill both in one shot. Place Bruno Mars in front though, just in case you fail, since it'd be probably easier to whack Kesha to death with the pistol's butt than him.

Would have voted Ke$ha here, LIMD has a sort of appealing lameness that gives me a tiny window through which I can basically relate to Ke$ha. The Katy song is as robotic and endless as most of her others, and although the "ohOHoHOHOH" part is as good here as it is on "I Do Not Hook Up," it's sort of cancelled out by the knowledge that the dreary Snoop guest spot is always lurking just around the corner.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

i apologize for my ke$ha vote, because now i have heard her song and o_O holy shit its awful

Dr. Chuck Klosterman, LLC (jjjusten), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

Both songs are evidence A and B of why the music industry is in the shitter.

Beach Pomade (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

would have voted Ke$ha b/c "California Gurls" is a lousy song with such a narrow point of listener identification and doesn't really get into Cali gurls AT ALL, it's just provincial and boring. But YLIMD is really stupid and abandoned and Ke$ha pisses people off like who else? She's like the anti-Gaga or something, and that's commendable.

Well, because whatever happened changed him. (Dr. Superman), Thursday, 8 July 2010 07:19 (fourteen years ago)

taio cruz's "dynamite" is def my fav dr. luke vomit-house joint -- pretty much cuz it sounds like an akon song

altered scones (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 July 2010 07:22 (fourteen years ago)

also the melody is pretty obvious (not that all dr. luke's stuff isn't) but the "whoa-oh-oh"ing seems more appropriate since the song just feels... a bit bigger, fuller, more housey than kesha, flo rida, katy p etc

& taio cruz obv doesn't have a "good" voice by any means but he doesn't sound like he's being strangled when he does it

altered scones (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 July 2010 07:24 (fourteen years ago)

yeah this is straight akon

i also like the b.o.b song with rivers -- the chorus is pretty nice even tho the verses are completely awful -- i might be a vomit-house sexist

altered scones (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 July 2010 07:26 (fourteen years ago)

when are we gonna do a big dr. luke poll

altered scones (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 8 July 2010 07:27 (fourteen years ago)

^^^ didn't realize "I Do Not Hook Up" was originally a KP song when I wrote this, wow. Her version kinda flubs the hook though, so maybe "California Gurls" is sort of an attempt to make good on the previous promise? CG has certainly grown on me a fair bit, still no LIMD tho

the new ke$ha single (i guess from the album) is a new level of low and pathetic. "take it off"
