man I voted for Run On because that is my favorite album out of any of these. followed by the For Carnation and then followed by Wowee Zowee.

18th Dye - Tribute to a Bus is a great great record

TFUL 282 album is great, as is the Helium album and the For Carnation. And Wowee Zowee...no idea how I'll vote.

Yeah, there are a lot of great records here, but strangely enough it wasn't difficult for me at all to pick out my two favorites.

Electr-o-Pura, Alien Lanes and Wowee Zowee = summer of 1995 (16 years old) for me. incredible records that i still love today.

Part of this is kind of "random records I loved in the mid-1990s", I don't really listen to any of these any more.

Railroad Jerk's Bang The Drum EP has really good cover of "Why Don't We Do It In The Road?"

Wow, tough choice here. Probably going to go w/18th Dye, but not sure which one. Helium's "Pat's Trick" is one of my favorite singles, but can't bring myself to vote for singles. Chavez also a contendor, and maybe even Pavement or Yo La Shmengo. The latter ones sound dated moreso than 18th Dye who = greatest underappreciated Matador band after Dustdevils. Their reunion album a few years ago was ok but not brittle enough. Kicking myself for missing the tour.

nothing here i love quite so much as my favorites from the last couple polls (uzi, GBV, pavement). orange, alien lanes, wowee zowee and elctr-O-pura are all great though. gotta go with GBV, again.

Ok, so here's the 18th Dye dilemma: Tribute To A Bus has the best sustained mood, driest production. Closest to Pink Flag, I guess. Done has better songs but production isn't quite as good, and for this particular band that does matter. Crayon is an EP but has two of their best songs. What to do...?

Tribute to a Bus was produced by Steve Albini. Done is wonderful, but it doesn't have Poolhouse Blue or Only Burn, but then again I didn't get to spend enough time with Done yet. I've loved Tribute but only recently found Done on vinyl, which was exciting for me.

Bunnybrains. But this list is clearly where I got off on the indie boat.

I guess my second choice would be something by Liz Phair or Pavement, but that might mainly be because I stopped paying attention.

tom coutenay was never a favorite of mine. i was more of a pablo & andrea guy.

"Pablo & Andrea" is awesome even though it's essentially a rewrite of Love's "A Message To A Pretty", but "Blue Line Swinger" is in fact the best song EVER.

"Tom Courtenany" and "Ballad of the Red Buckets" are pretty great, but despite its titanic highs, Electr-O-pura is a bit filler-ish for me to not be uneasy about giving it my vote. That's a record with some pretty large quality gaps.

electr-o-pura is perfect and by far my favorite YLT album, but I voted for TFUL.

yeah, but calling it "n.y. black" seems like a dodge. the song's called "now you know you're black".

Ok I know these are all totally boring, but this is going to be a tough battle for me between Electr-O-Pura, Alien Lanes, Wowee Zowee, and Gone Glimmering.

wowee zowee is pavement's last good album so there's that....

I dunno I guess I always associated Spoon and Superchunk w/Merge, Sonic Youth with SST and then DGS, B&S with, well, their British label...

yeah, but they've all been on matador... sonic youth are still signed to them now.

Spoon and Superchunk both started on Matador, fwiw.

Granted, B&S weren't even on Matador until their third album, but The Enclave doesn't even exist anymore and Tigermilk wasn't even released in the US until it was released on Matador.

Superchunk started on Matador before poaching themselves (and Spoon and M.Ward) from Matador. You're "losing it" (groan) if you don't remember B&S from the FMBB days Shakey Mo!

It feels wrong not to vote for Alien Lanes but it feels very wrong indeed not to vote for Wowee Zowee. Sorry to vote for the big obvious names (18th Dye, you were pretty rad) but it's what has to be done.

Ok, so this is the kind of thing that I always feel uncomfortable about, but have to go with Tribute To A Bus by 18th Dye, just because it's formally so incredibly tight. Seriously, it's like right up there with Pink Flag. Also possibly Albini's best production job ever.

The other album/ep have songs I like better, but are less unified. And when we poll best album *cover* Part Tres, 18th Dye takes it with ease.
