Matador at 21
really curious as to what the tickets will cost for this event. will do my best to get down there for this, but i would think that the pearl at the palm will sell out fairly quickly.
anyone know what the capacity of the pearl is?

I can't believe they're finishing every set with The Doors...who's even singing for them?
― Mormons come out of the sky and they stand there (Abbbottt), Sunday, 26 September 2010 15:48 (fifteen years ago)
Starting! And it's not The Doors, its Doors, this kid with a ukulele who lived in a well until he was 18 (now 19. Says he's never heard of the old group, but that his songs were "doors" out of his well.
― da croupier, Sunday, 26 September 2010 16:27 (fifteen years ago)
Sonic Youth trying to follow Fucked Up (and Chavez, actually) is going to be pretty unfortunate, I'd guess.
― dlp9001, Sunday, 26 September 2010 22:41 (fifteen years ago)
Pretty unfortunate for Fucked Up, I'd say!
― ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Monday, 27 September 2010 01:29 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, I'm old and often root for grandma and grandpa, but the idea of SY having anything interesting to do after FU is just about impossible to imagine. Good luck to them...
― dlp9001, Monday, 27 September 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)
also chavez is the best band ever and sonic youth are boring
― call all destroyer, Monday, 27 September 2010 01:54 (fifteen years ago)
I'm going. Excited about pretty much every aspect of it.
― erasingclouds, Monday, 27 September 2010 02:32 (fifteen years ago)
Sonic Youth played after everyone at ATP a few weeks ago (Fucked Up included, fwiw), and absolutely crushed.
― Can you keep up? (Cheetah), Monday, 27 September 2010 08:17 (fifteen years ago)
Hahaha Abb my ex made that exact same joke upon reading the set list of last years Becks Party festival show with Melt Banana and co.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Monday, 27 September 2010 08:55 (fifteen years ago)
Wait... S-Ban & the Witch are now on Matador?
― My glowbo's ain't half itchy (NickB), Monday, 27 September 2010 09:04 (fifteen years ago)
Also, I'm so envious of you folks getting to see Come again.
― My glowbo's ain't half itchy (NickB), Monday, 27 September 2010 09:06 (fifteen years ago)
so pfm is going to stream some of those concerts here:http://pitchfork.com/festivals/matador-21/myspace/but right now it only shows some dudes hanging around in a room
wonder if this time spiral stairs will let them stream pavement's gig
― V79, Saturday, 2 October 2010 00:24 (fifteen years ago)
right now it only shows some dudes hanging around in a room
It's a tribute to the start of the label, obv.

Because
a) you KNOW liz phair is gonna try and do new stuff and
b) Not 100% sure Neko is with the New pornos and who gives a shit if it's Calder...
― Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 2 October 2010 04:58 (fifteen years ago)
sweet .. thanks for that link, V79!! didn't know about that, and just in time to see F'd Up/Pvmnt/da Youth
not sure about the F'd Up dude bringing out his brat tho, kinda lame. One of my best buds is out there. mildly jealous but other than tonight the only other bands I'm interested in are Come and The Clean. Come is streaming tomorrow, it looks like, yay! but apparently no Clean set? :-(
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 05:18 (fifteen years ago)
Myspace is also streaming it.

― nickn, Saturday, 2 October 2010 05:44 (fifteen years ago)
haha, same stream.
― nickn, Saturday, 2 October 2010 05:45 (fifteen years ago)
Haahah I managed to clic on this just as SY came on stage.
"Tom Violence" ! :D
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 05:50 (fifteen years ago)
ok THAT was sweet. great set -- and thanks for that link, nickn.
Apparently, the full-screen view must be disabled from the P-Frok link. at least, it didn't work for me in Firefox. When I clicked full-screen it seems disabled. When I switched to your myspace link, it worked. Thurston/Lee swordfight plus Thurston's crack in HD, awesome!
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:40 (fifteen years ago)
Yah it didnt fullscreen for me either but i assumed it was cos of the embedding.
Nice set, few sloppy bits but theyve always been like that live I suppose. Kims voice grates on me the more she ages, tho :(
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:41 (fifteen years ago)
They did 'Mote' ... I was so happy.
So Ive now seen this band live at various times for 22 years. Wau.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:42 (fifteen years ago)
19 for me (first was 'Goo' tour in '91 ...)
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:43 (fifteen years ago)
actually, holy shit, I take that back ... more like 20 years .. becuz I just googled it, and not only did I find the date, I found the whole setlist Plus all the STAGE BANTER!!:
http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/cc/102090.html
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:46 (fifteen years ago)
that is fucking crazy
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:47 (fifteen years ago)
Crap wait, me too. I thought I went to the 88 or 89 tour but I didnt (bf got me a tshirt is all), so yeah 91 it was. Hiphoprasy supported them.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:47 (fifteen years ago)
i guess i just never really explored sonicyouth.com before
OK that stage banter transcript is mental fandom.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:48 (fifteen years ago)
Huh wait it was 93 according to that site. My memory is shit.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:50 (fifteen years ago)
apparently they have kept records of not only set-lists, but, when available, stage banter from every damn show!
http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/cc/sytour2.html
they really must be our generations Grateful Dead :-/ .. I didn't recall that 'Goo' tour being in 1990, I thought it was '91. but yeah, Redd Kross opened (and they were great too, they came out and sang back-up vocals during "Goo")
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:52 (fifteen years ago)
Fullscreen was good on the myspace link. Very nice feed, too. I think I first saw them in the early 90s at the Palladium in LA.
Pavement at midnight!
― nickn, Saturday, 2 October 2010 06:52 (fifteen years ago)
holy crap ... SM Spiral fite?
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 07:42 (fifteen years ago)
Wait wut? I wasnt watching
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 08:00 (fifteen years ago)
seemed liek when Sprial did his one (1!) song, SM rly disrespected it, didn't play nice, spun around on his back and made it a joke. afterward, seemed like real dirty looks exchanged between the two .. weird, i dunno
no "Here"no "Summer Babe"
one thing abt the PVMNT reunion, no 2 setlists the same....
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 08:29 (fifteen years ago)
I gave up watcing this set after about half a song :/ They seem so jaded and crud now.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 08:50 (fifteen years ago)
You gave too soon! I was not expecting much because I've seen them put on flat shows before & I was worried after the first couple tunes they were just punching the clock but this was by far the most energetic and just I guess entertaining I've ever seen them. As a guitarist SM is just light years beyond where he was back in the day. Range Life was beautiful I thought.
But Sonic Youth was ferocious tonight.
― Hadrian VIII, Saturday, 2 October 2010 08:59 (fifteen years ago)
Maybe Im spoiled for Pvmt having seen them when Gary was still the drummer, they were really sparky back then.
― cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Saturday, 2 October 2010 09:21 (fifteen years ago)
me 2
only saw PVMT twice before the last couple months. Saw them on the first tour, with Gary Young, it was at the Lounge Ax in Chicago (band Frances Gumm was one of the openers, can't remember the other.) Then, also saw them again with West as drummer, before "Crooked Rain" came out ... this would have been the 'Drag City Invitational' fest, at Lounge Ax. Never saw them again until this year's reunion shows!
but I have enjoyed them. at least, the two that I saw in person, Pitchfork fest in Chicago, and Millennium Park in Chicago. I just watched the webcast for tonight. But, I dunno, something seemed lacking in that Las Vegas show .. maybe the guys are getting tired, who knows
― Stormy Davis, Saturday, 2 October 2010 09:41 (fifteen years ago)
Fuck! missed the first 15 minutes of Come. got too damn wrapped up in my fantasy baseball league (last weekend...)
― Stormy Davis, Sunday, 3 October 2010 01:02 (fifteen years ago)
Gah I cant work out the time diff now we have DST and I have to go to the vet in an hour... I hope I dont miss Superchunk! :/

― Bee OK, Sunday, 3 October 2010 05:36 (fifteen years ago)
It is pretty live, from what I can tell, and Superchunk were fucking awesome.

Pitchfork seems to be re-streaming Ted Leo and The New Pornographers back-to-back (with a 30 or 40 minute gap in between their sets).Does anyone know if they will be re-streaming any of the other sets, or if they'll archive any of the performances?

I was mighty tempted, but once I read the full tracklist I realized just how much of it I already had and it suddenly felt silly to pay for it all again.
