So I had heard of these guys for years but never actually heard them until I stumbled across the Hand Passes Plenty EP at Amoeba last week -- pretty good, weirdly dreamy/zoney stuff that suited a lot of things in 1994 (Spiritualized, Butterfly Child, etc.) while not simply being one thing or another. Wikipedia entry makes them sound like these reasonably bloody-minded trend survivors. So what was the deal?

Haha and why not that as a criterion, after all.

They went out on top, "O" was fantastic. I have no idea what happened to them. I was revisting "Victor Parts" recently and though there's a few duff tracks the rest just KILLS.

Stunt Girl is classic. Haven't heard much else they did though.

stunt girl and i messiah am jailer both great, they got less interesting as they got poppier though. having said that the later stuff not bad by any means. mates with brian molko.

decent band hampered by one of the worst band names of all time.

hey a Bee OK question.
so i was a pretty big fan of these guys, i own Able Treasury, Victory Parts and Understanding Music albums. also own Hand Passes Plenty EP, I Messiah Am Jailer CD Single, Stunt Girl EP, Like Ribbons EP and She's With Stars EP.
so as you can tell i was a pretty big fan. they seem to satisfy my shoegaze fix after most of those bands broke up. i really liked Able Treasury and Victory Parts. Understanding Music seemed good as well but really wasn't into it like their first two albums.

i'd probably put them in a basket with whipping boy, though they were not nearly as lyrically forthright as WB

Heard them on a really excellent Trance Syndicate sampler (alongside Bedhead, Roky Erickson), really liked. What were they doing on that label?

dunno, but for a split second in 1990-whatever, trance could do no wrong. all that may do my rhyme = probably the best solo roky ever. trance also had pain teens at their long forgotten peak. the pleasures of the flesh...
