--- NOMINATIONS THREAD for ILM's Alltime Best Metal/Heavy Rock TRACKS Poll---. - Nominations end 11.59pm UK Time July 16th

John J has kindly volunteered to tabulate the results so we are going to have an ILM Alltime Best Metal/Heavy Rock tracks Poll & ILM's Alltime Best Metal/Heavy Rock Albums Poll.

This is the thread to nominate the tracks. No limit on nominations for now but that may change.
As regards to "alternative" stuff, Grunge obviously counts, janes addiction count(jane says too because if that doesnt count then neither does the metal ballads, which would be silly) , but not sonic youth or dinosaur jr type stuff. If you're not sure ask on thread, someone will comment for sure!
We can discuss and veto tracks on this thread. But make sure you do, no moaning when results are in.

So onwards with your nominations.

Will start with a few obvious ones.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O Mine
Guns N Roses - Paradise City
Janes Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Pearl Jam - Alive

now lets go..

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

AC/DC - Let There Be Rock
Aerosmith - Nobody's Fault
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Slayer - Raining Blood
Van Halen - Panama

This is going to be great.

Oh, that reminds me:

Kyuss - Demon Cleaner

Gavin in Leeds, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

This is going to be great.

I sure hope so.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

I have the distinct pleasure of nominating the following:

Motörhead - Ace Of Spades
Motörhead - No Voices In The Sky
Slayer - Angel Of Death
Aerosmith - Sick As A Dog
Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Metallica - One
Slipknot - Wait and Bleed
Converge - Fault and Fracture
Deftones - Change
...
I'm guessing punk/hardcore stuff doesn't figure in here?

underneath the moon and the stars (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:27 (fourteen years ago)

Black Sabbath - War Pigs
Black Sabbath - Neon Knights
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
the Beatles - Helter Skelter
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Iron Maiden - Flash of the Blade
Iron Maiden - Wrathchild
Blue Oyster Cult - Godzilla
Van Halen - Runnin with the Devil
Metallica - Enter Sandman

MumblestheRevelator, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:31 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not against it but others might.
Nominate stuff and if people wish to veto it we can. Or we just add "punk" to the thread title if there's loads of demand hehe.

But I think certain punk belongs and some dont. I think Anarchy In The UK prob should be nommed. I think Kick Out The Jams and I Wanna Be Your Dog type stuff should be too. The line between metal/punk/hard rock has long blurred. No Television or Blondie though...
I guess Green Day can since most of their fans are "kerrang" type. I think most know here which punk metal fans like and so on.

But will leave the decisions to the majority on this thread.

Does Cromagnon - Caledonia count? Because if so, I might actually vote in this poll.

emil.y, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:09 (fourteen years ago)

I dont see why not. Its a great heavy track. But I dont think ballots of 1 or 2 songs/albums will be accepted! But i know you have a secret teenage metal past anyway..

spirituelized-cop shoot cop
the jesus&mary chain-reverence

as metal or hard rock, sorry. And i love all 4 bands. But I really dont think they belong in this poll. Sorry.
No probs with the rest.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'd agree. (I love those bands too.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:28 (fourteen years ago)

lol johnny, im dreading all the votes for hair metal, but that was kinda the reason for the tracks poll, they kinda more belong in one than the albums (with some exceptions.

BUT FOR FFS

YOU LEFT OUT HANOI ROCKS

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:28 (fourteen years ago)

I dont see why not. Its a great heavy track. But I dont think ballots of 1 or 2 songs/albums will be accepted! But i know you have a secret teenage metal past anyway..

Ha, not at all! I'm one of the few people I know who didn't go through a metal phase. I was a grunge kid, but along the Nirvana/Sonic Youth/Dinosaur Jr lines rather than Alice In Chains/Soundgarden.

On the other hand, I do love Sabbath and Hawkwind. I could put together a ballot of just them. But I probably shouldn't - all the real metallers will hate me for ruining their poll.

emil.y, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:29 (fourteen years ago)

Hanoi Rocks - Tragedy

emil.y dont be silly. If you like enough to make a ballot then do it. This is an ILM poll not a terrorizer poll anyway!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:30 (fourteen years ago)

No doubt a lot of grunge will make my ballot anyway. It was my way in.

Its going to be a fucking nightmare limiting my ballot to 50 albums though.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:31 (fourteen years ago)

Hanoi Rocks - Don't Never Leave Me

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:31 (fourteen years ago)

Hanoi Rocks - Until I get You

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

YOU LEFT OUT HANOI ROCKS

On purpose. I always thought they were shit.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:34 (fourteen years ago)

Hawkwind - Silver Machine

aaaaaaaaaaand...

Spermswamp - Fermented Anal Nectar

emil.y, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

Couple more, then I'll stop.

Mötley Crüe - Wild Side

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

The Who - Baba O'Riley
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:37 (fourteen years ago)

YOU LEFT OUT HANOI ROCKS

On purpose. I always thought they were shit.

― Johnny Fever,

that's when i reach for my suggest banolver ;)

You nominate shitty hair metal yet dont like Hanoi Rocks???? !!!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

I just noted that I was nominating hair metal. Not that it was shitty. You're a pretty judgmental fuck, haha!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:45 (fourteen years ago)

Tool - Schism

Sundar, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:46 (fourteen years ago)

You can nominate all you like johhny. But hanoi rocks will beat most of it :P

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

Now I know how Tuomas feels when he gets razzed for talking about dance music in year-end threads. I'm being marginalized!!!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:50 (fourteen years ago)

I really wish tuomas would nominate some metal/heavy rock songs he liked.
I can see plenty of people voting for tracks but not albums actually.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:51 (fourteen years ago)

btw johnny, i bet half of the tracks you nominate get in the poll results easy

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box
Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose
Alice In Chains - Would

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

Heh, I nominated "Jesus Christ Pose" already.

Sundar, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:55 (fourteen years ago)

bad me, i was too busy marginalizing poor johnny! ;)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:56 (fourteen years ago)

Does 'Heart Shaped Box' really count as Metal/Heavy Rock? I mean, I can see 'School' working within the remit, but not ALL Nirvana songs. What next, 'Molly's Lips'?

emil.y, Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:07 (fourteen years ago)

damn right it does. and it will be bloody high in my ballot too. ( Heart Shaped Box)

Its heavier than bon jovis 80s hits that i have no objection to being nominated as its still heavy rock.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:09 (fourteen years ago)

Kreator - Impossible Brutality

Sundar, Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:10 (fourteen years ago)

As I said before metal/heavy rock bands still made lighter songs that are still songs made by metal/hard rock bands. I'm not a fan of metal/hard rock ballads, I despise many of them, but they're still classed as metal/heavy rock songs.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:13 (fourteen years ago)

The Who? Really?

underneath the moon and the stars (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:43 (fourteen years ago)

I think the parameters of this poll may be fatally ill-defined.

underneath the moon and the stars (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:44 (fourteen years ago)

I think the definition is clear its just a wide category. I don't really see how Led Zeppelin or BOC could be accepted but The Who rejected.

Viceroy of the Daleks (Viceroy), Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:47 (fourteen years ago)

Will leave it up to thread participants to decide on what gets in or not.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 01:54 (fourteen years ago)

Anyone else says the who shouldnt be allowed (obv theres a difference between 60s and 70s who) speak up

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 02:27 (fourteen years ago)

i object to "Under the Bridge" by RHCP being on the nom list
dont know the blind melon song but i object to it in principle

t( :D t) (jjjusten), Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:24 (fourteen years ago)

um look at the entire thread; I have not actually nominated a ton of stupid shit, jerkface

HI DERE, Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:26 (fourteen years ago)

admittedly I have laughed at some apparently arbitrary rules that are not helping me understand what "metal" actually is, but the only thing I nominated on this list as an outright joke was the Eskimos & Egypt song

HI DERE, Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

ρεμπετις, Thursday, 15 July 2010 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

are people really going to be voting for more than 1 or 2 tracks by bands? I can see why with sabbath, zep, metallica etc. Cuz I'd expect them to place.
But oh well, I'd rather people voted for their top 50 (ranked) tracks ever than tactical voting.

Perhaps you could please change the title to Nominations end 11.59pm UK Time July 16th ?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 15 July 2010 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

tactical voting is false metal xxxpost

truth be told i am suffering from a rampaging hangover after discovering that my bloody mary mix was greatly improved by the addition of heroic levels of vodka and experimenting to find the perfect balance by making uh like 6 of them? so i might need to search through once again with a clearer head

emil.y i'll post that youtube for you, but it's bloody awful.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

I assumed Prince would be vetoed, but ok then:

Prince - Purple Rain
Prince - When Doves Cry

Ismael Klata, Friday, 16 July 2010 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

I'd accept Purple Rain but would veto When Doves Cry on the basis that anything sampled by MC Hammer can't be Metal/Heavy Rock.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Friday, 16 July 2010 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

I think Prince has some heavy rock tracks of which Purple Rain is one, however he is not a heavy rock artist, and not everything is eligible.

And If people veto it its vetoed.

Not allowing when doves cry

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 16:40 (fourteen years ago)

Pistols OUT. Of everything, from now until forever.

Prince - Fury

Ismael Klata, Friday, 16 July 2010 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

pfunk pestered me into giving this a go after stating in the albums nom list I didn't really want to. Did a top 10.
