Grunge counts as Metal/heavy rock. So does Janes Addiction but Sonic Youth dont. So use some common sense.

If you're not sure, post it on the thread asking if it's ok. You know plenty will have an opinion.

You can nominate the last 2 Ulver. Dunno if anyone will vote for them but to me its no different from a metal band making a folk album or whatever. Ulver are still a metal band making electronic stuff as far as im concerned.

Also, they're Christians with painfully emo lyrics. Album would prob do nothing for me if I heard it for the first time now, but it really does hold a place in my heart and I still want to hear it once in a while, and I'm generally not into metal.

Then again, a lot of metal bands look pretty ridic.

I dunno the band at all, but everyone on here likes stuff others dont so i wouldnt worry. Baroness are great, but i doubt they would make an alltime top 50. But if it makes someone el ses then who am i to argue.I prefer people voting for their genuine favourite records rather than the tactical voting of "im only going to vote for what i think will place" bullshit.

It may have been a mistake to not give some limits or criteria. But it's your poll.

i said we could set limits and veto stuff in here, but it would be damn silly to exclude Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Melvins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney who appealed to the metal side of grunge. Already said at the top that sonic youth kind of stuff is a nogo.

I say let them in, early MSP is heavy rock influenced. but nothing post richey. 80s RHCP seems fair enough. KJ , alex in nyc would say werent metal or heavy rock or industrial, but they're heavy enough on a couple of albums to get in.

Like I said, we were stricter for albums. It's the tracks list that's dodgy.

Funkadelic doesn't belong. If Jay Z doesn't even get considered DESPITE ACTUALLY BEING ON A NU-METAL RECORD and you're vetoing a bunch of rock that's borderline, Funkadelic should be out too.

I don't care one way or the other. Kerr will vote for it, and maybe two or three other people, but I don't see it making the final results anyway. And if they do? Well, hot dog! ILM continues to be very ILM-y.

Well that'd be my attitude too, but a bunch of stuff I like keeps getting kicked off for being too poppy or whatever. I want a broad list, but if that just means including one or two house favourites.

Went to see Black Mountain the other night, who were simply brilliant. But don't know albums well enough to nominate one ...

That funkadelic album is a heavy rock album, I already vetoed maggot brain the album.

If people want a Funkadelic album vetoed then it shall be vetoed. Same goes for any "borderline album".

It has to be one of those dates so john has nearly a week to do the tabulations for the tracks results to get it ready for start the following monday, and then the albums results the following monday.

I think the 2nd of August is enough, as previous polls usually get most votes the 1st 2 days and last 2 days.
And if you're wondering why a monday, it's just so that the final day of voting falls on a workday, whilst giving john the maximum time to tabulate the results.

I think voting should finish at the stroke of midnight on December 31, 2010.

I think more say yes than no to maggot brain so I'll have to let it in then. But Dont blame me folks, I said no to one of my fave albums ever but got outvoted.

btw when I post the updated list regularly, it is usually because I have added nominations, and it is easier for me to add the full list, plus it helps people checking what to nominate. Trolling helps noone.

Hard rock and metal has always been an album oriented thing for me; I might have some songs I like more than others, but I view it as a whole piece. With lots of other genres I'm the other way 'round.
