We did BUY1 to BUY50 before, y'know.

Not a great run, compared to the splendours of BUY1 to BUY6. I'd say New Rose >>>>>>>>>>> Neat Neat Neat > Richard Hell >>>>>>>>>> Notorhead. Can't remember how "Silver Shirt" goes, and it ain't on Youtube or Spotify.

"New Rose", landmark and epic. "Help" announced their attitude towards 60s rock out of the gate, too.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 8 July 2010 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

"Silver shirt" is a lighters aloft slow rock ballad about "goodbye rock and roll". It's awful.

Which is a shame, as the b-side is crackin'

This was too early in Stiff history. They got better around 1979 when they went from punk to poppy new wave

Buy 11 to 20 has some good ones.

I thought I was running this poll a bit short.

Turns out it may be too long!

voted New Rose - on its day it's untouchable, and today is a New Rose kinda day

Bill E, Monday, 12 July 2010 08:30 (fourteen years ago)

I bought Neat*3 back in the day, couldn't even find New Rose until years later.

I have a vague hunch that I bought "New Rose" before its official release date. The owner of my local record store had been down at the Stiff offices earlier in the week, and was given a pre-release batch to take up to Cambridge. Then I wandered in on a Friday afternoon, first time I'd ever set foot in the place, and asked if he'd got anything on Stiff. "We've got all of them!" he said, proudly. I came away with "So It Goes", "Boogie On The Street", "Styrofoam" and "New Rose". That was a moment, that was.

Yeah, I had a similar moment, except my mate was all "You don't want any of that, it's punk crap!" so I didn't get the chance.

Of course, 2 months later he'd turned around.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I split the poll ofthe first ten in half, I figured "New Rose" would run away with it...

Mark G, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 07:05 (fourteen years ago)

Voted Richard Hell, but New Rose comes close.

Richard Merrick, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 12:25 (fourteen years ago)
