If it were just about anyone besides Fleetwood Mac, I'd def vote for him (even though he hasn't released anything worth a damn in about 30 years).

This is maybe the trickiest one so far. I felt pretty comfortable with my previous choice, but this one I just kinda had to flip a coin. Public Enemy vs. The Cure and Velvet Underground vs. Radiohead were both tough ones for me.

The only one of these I had to stop and think about was Fleetwood Mac vs Stevie, and now I am kind of thinking I went the wrong way on that one.

Cure, Velvets, Al Green, Stevie. First two easy, second two hard, mainly because I don't know enough about either Kraftwerk or Al Green to make an informed choice.

Cure vs. Public Enemy another good "peak value vs. career value" contest (not a hard one for me, but I rate the Cure's peak higher than most do.)

Depends what you mean by exciting I guess, I mean The Man-Machine isn't exactly full of visceral thrills either. I like Kraftwerk too, don't get me wrong but Al Green wins out on volume of songs I love.

While Kraftwerk's music is not exciting in the sense of 'visceral' or 'jaunty' or whatever, the sounds they make and the possibilities of that kind of music DO excite me. Whereas I find Al Green, although perfectly pleasant, something of a dead end. It's nice, but that's about it.

It starts with the voice. You either get it or you don't--and though it took too long, by now almost everyone does. Al Green's midrange generates a mellow burn like good single-malt Scotch and is cut by a rotgut roughness when he growls and a signature falsetto finer than wine.

OK, that makes sense - I guess Al Green excites me in a pop sense, as in you've got a great vocalist (I mean one of the greatest ever) backed by a really tight band doing top-drawer material, beautifully produced. The magic comes from hearing everything lock together so well, there are all these great moments and hooks - it really is joyful, moving stuff.

Well, the whole point of this exercise is narrowing it down to one winner, so I'm not too bummed about anyone losing out. I just really hated to see Creedence knocked out so early.

Speaking as somebody who enjoys a fair bit of their recorded work, I can still see how easy it wd be to totally hate Radiohead. Earnest whiny art rock strangely not universally revered.

it's not always whiny! n.b. I don't care for the (whiny) first two albums much at all these days (although weirdly I prefer Pablo Honey to The Bends)

Don't hate Radiohead, just don't care about them. There are better versions of pretty much everything they do, but they can be a good entry-point for people to get into more interesting music.

Whiny is a loaded word obv and I would not use it really but dude it's blatant how they could be considered whiny.
