Elvis Presley = Bill Clinton?

Has anyone noticed the resemblance? I don't think it comes through in photographs, but in early Elvis footage and movies I was immediately reminded of Clinton. What it is? The cocky self-assurace, the goofy smile, the aw, shucks accent? Well, Elvis was born in Tupelo, Miss and Clinton I guess in Little Rock, Arkansas so maybe regionalism can account for their similarities?

Josh, Saturday, 3 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

jess, Saturday, 3 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

do you really want an answer to that question?

Marcus's Dead Elvis is a good read by the way. Includes a quote from Yukio Mishima stating that if he could be anyone else it would be Elvis.

Double Trouble is just a collection of Marcus's '90s essays, with the Elvis/Clinton thing only touched on in a few of them. A lot about Dylan and Pere Ubu, as well as Nirvana, plus the Geto Boys, and probably the Mekons, too. Almost no Sleater-Kinney. If you liked Dead Elvis you'd probably like it.

Yeah, apparently James Traficant is Bushwick Bill.

Wait wait wait....maybe Elvis actually became Crocus Behemoth of Pere Ubu!

two years pass...
Clinton was born in Hope, not Little Rock. They grow some big watermelons down there.

the uncanny parallels between elvis and jesus are far more intriguing

I always thought Clinton looked like Robert Redford's hair and eyes put on WC Field's jaw line and nose.
