voted 1212. It stands out pretty high above this crop of mostly GBV in diarrhea-mode.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

i can feel the heart beating.... perfect, perfect album.

the crucible of easily debunked e-mail fwds (stevie), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

Voted Carnival Boy because its incredible.

Evan, Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:03 (fifteen years ago)

222, by a mile, for the win.

Autumn Sweater Remixes is unfuckwithable as well.

Grisly Addams (WmC), Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

yeah those remixes need a reissue, I think that EP is oop.

YLT is really good... seems like it would be cheating to vote for the Dial M reissue but that's where my heart is. Cat Power also a fave. the 2 Foot Flame was a big letdown from the debut, which I still like quite a bit.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:16 (fifteen years ago)

oh, Run On and the Who Shot Elvis LP are good too, still have both of those.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

Carnival Boy, Heart Beating or Missile Me. The only one of those I've put on recently was Carnival Boy and it still sounded great; last time I put on the other two they had not aged well for me.

atoms breaking heart (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:18 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, Dial M is the best thing on here by a mile, but it's just a reissue. Did they even remaster it? I still have my Caroline CD, which is awfully lo volume.

dlp9001, Sunday, 11 July 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

i can feel the heart beating.... perfect, perfect album.

This!

Actually I feel like the rest of these Matador polls are going to be (for me) like Spoon vs. reissues, until we get to Fucked Up. Possible exception of a Bardo Pond album at some point...maybe I'm forgetting something. But interesting to relive the period when I switched from Cosloy to Gail O'Hara for guidance...

dlp9001, Sunday, 11 July 2010 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wait, forgot that Spoon changed labels. So much for that...

dlp9001, Sunday, 11 July 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

dial M = my favorite thing on here by a long shot, but it's a reissue, so no. therefore, i can hear the heart beating as one, which will almost certainly sweep this.

OLE-207 Various Artists -- What's Up VHS (CANCELLED) was not cancelled (unless by that they mean it's no longer in print?) because I have it here at work with me.

Well, because whatever happened changed him. (Dr. Superman), Sunday, 11 July 2010 21:47 (fifteen years ago)

YLT this time.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 July 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

developer

call all destroyer, Sunday, 11 July 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

as i do on every Cat Power thread, i'll reiterate my minority opinion that What Would The Community Think? is her best record and the Shelley/Foljahn lineup pwns everything that came after.

some dude, Sunday, 11 July 2010 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

dr. supe - i'm guessing that what's up vhs came out later or w/ different catalog number - all this liz phair came out eventually (although i think maybe not on matador? can't remember if she's dealt off matador immediately before or after whitechocolatestarfishegg). voted 'nude as the news' single - loved it at the time, loved it when local radio really played the fuck out of it circa the jesse jackson love child scandal, loved it as a karaoke track, it's got that in and out touch of harmony i like in my fave cat power.

OLE-207 Various Artists -- What's Up VHS (CANCELLED) was not cancelled (unless by that they mean it's no longer in print?) because I have it here at work with me.

The Matador website discography (which I'm basing this whole thing on) says OLE-207 was indeed cancelled - but OLE-163 wasn't, and according to them the VHS shares that catalogue number with the LP/CD.

OLE-210 Bardo Pond -- Lapsed

THIS ALBUM SLAYS

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Monday, 12 July 2010 13:47 (fifteen years ago)

Agree it feels like cheating to vote Pussy Galore (esp since my copies are on Mute) but those are probably my favourite on this list. After those it's between YLT & Guitar Wolf I think. Going for Planet Of The Wolves.

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Monday, 12 July 2010 13:54 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Friday, 16 July 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Sorry Guitar Wolf, I went with Tobin Sprout, though if nothing awesome I've forgotten about comes up in the next one then the "Kawasaki Z-II 750 Rock'n'roll" single can have some points (checked this cz I thought it was out between Missile Me and Planet of the Wolves but apparently it's 271)

DIAL S FOR SHAKEY MO COLLIER

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Saturday, 17 July 2010 12:40 (fifteen years ago)

If this one isn't YLT I'll eat my hat.

On to more important things: where should I start with Guitar Wolf? I only know Invader Ace from the video years and years ago. Is there a good comp or otherwise suitable intro to their brand of barely controlled frenzy?

wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Saturday, 17 July 2010 21:01 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, who is going to finish 2nd to Yo La Tengo?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 17 July 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Saturday, 17 July 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

excellent showing for bardo pond. that spoon album is half great, as a lot of their records are.

mizzell, Saturday, 17 July 2010 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

OK that was closer than I expected. People are REALLY into Bardo Pond. Spoon I can't deal with, though; they're the kind of band I ought to like, but I fucking hate Britt Daniel's voice. Nothing personal, I'm sure he's a lovely fellow, but aaargh.

wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Saturday, 17 July 2010 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

OLE-240 Cat Power -- Nude As The News 3
OLE-202 Cat Power -- What Would The Community Think 3

"Schizophrenia's Weighted Me Down" is a great b-side but it's not like it singlehandedly trumps the 11 non-"Nude" songs on the full-length, woulda been nice if the album took its rightful place in 3rd here

some dude, Saturday, 17 July 2010 23:50 (fifteen years ago)

3rd place is a small victory, holy cow.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Saturday, 17 July 2010 23:51 (fifteen years ago)

Part Seis is up now. A two-horse race, maybe?

wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Saturday, 17 July 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)

I fucking hate Britt Daniel's voice. Nothing personal, I'm sure he's a lovely fellow

You haven't seen anything until you've seen Britt staggering drunk and coked up, puking and shitting his pants on the floor of a local bar, and then being carried out by friends.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Thursday, 22 July 2010 03:57 (fifteen years ago)

(I didn't see this myself. But I have a friend who knows Britt, and had the pleasure of being present.)
