So - if Turbo D were to attack, would you or would you not want that? (smell my wittiness. Oh-ho yes.)

Mr Swygart, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it easier just to stay off his back in the first place.

Nick, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear he's as serious as cancer

, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

...when he says rhythm is a dancer

, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the question again?

Oh yeah...

Classic, until they got landed with the "Euro-Dance" tag, and felt they had to live up to it by releasing a shedload of cheesy pop with amusing raps in it.

Dud thereafter.

Nick, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic, if only for the "Homer's Phobia" episode of the Simpsons.

Dom Passantino, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont think the song is very good, but it sure is funny. i do love the way you have phrased the question, swygart

Ron, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

it was C & C Music Factory used in that Simpsons episode and not Snap!

, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The reason I enquire is because I've stumbled on a promo single of The Power... except it's a cover version by H-Blockx, though it does have Turbo D rapping on it. It also has a nice drawing of Turbo on the front.

A true music aficianto can't even tell the difference. Now whos got the power??Dud!

brg30, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I can, cos I've got the C&C's album. No track under five minutes - Gonna make you Sweat last for a good six and a half...

Mr Swygart, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

'The Power' sounded ace at the club I was at last night so on that basis: 'classic'. He's the lyrical Jessie James y'know.

RickyT, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I ahve absolutely no idea why I scare quoted classic up there.

RickyT, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Best version of "The Power" that came out that year, so classic for that. Dud for the career ending homophobia and every other record they released.

J Blount, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything Snap ever touched sucked ass.

maria, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

So you're saying the Gap Band and Madonna suck?

J Blount, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i bet madonna has sucked ass at least once in her life. *tap* *tap* is this thing on??

Ron, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The Gap Band and Madonna have sucked ass from time to time, but DEFINITELY NOT as often as Snap did.

maria, Sunday, 4 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

That H-Blockx The Power cover really is quite bad. The 2002 remake of Do You See The Light however is ace, both the original and the Push remix. And here's a Snap biography/discography. Snap (=Michael Münzig & Luca Anzilotti) ran two labels (Logic and Time Out Of Mind) in the early 90s Frankfurt trance scene. They even did an (excellent) Radio 1 Essential Mix in those days.

Siegbran Hetteson, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, "I will attack/and you don't want that!" should have been in that list of "Most Rubbish Rap Threats/Insults" thread of a couple weeks back. I love it nonetheless.

mike, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The remake of 'Do You See The Light' is abysmal! I suppose you think Ian Van Dahl makes good 'trance' music as well - buh...

, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ian Van Dahl is incredibly bad. The only enjoyable thing about them is some of other people's remixes of their tracks. But Do You See The Light 2002 really is great. Far, far, far better than the incredibly cheesy Snap original. The production work of Plaything (= Luca Moretti and Ricky Romanini of Wisdome, Triple X, Love Connection, etc) on the remake is outstanding, not only this track but also on last year's Into Space. I love that fat, pumping disco beat. It's got fuck-all to do with all these flat, badly produced cheesy vocal poptrance tracks (Lasgo, Ian Van Dahl, Dee Dee, Foggy, Sylver, etc) anyway.

nineteen years pass...

So Chill Rob B originally came up with “The Power,” and then Snap stole it and had a hit with it, is that right? But then how do you explain that Snap’s release came out in 1989 (Logic Records 612 938):

https://www.discogs.com/release/20337-Snap-The-Power

…and Chill Rob B’s didn’t come out until a year later?

https://www.discogs.com/master/1537054-Chill-Rob-G-The-Power-Let-The-Words-Flow

And then what the hell is this “Power Jam featuring Chill Rob B “The Power” which also came out in 1990? Is that the same song?

https://www.discogs.com/master/80964-Power-Jam-Featuring-Chill-Rob-G-The-Power

And after I’m done digesting all that, I then find out that apparently none of the above contains the “Peace stay off my back or I will attack and you don’t want that” line that we all know and love. That is yet ANOTHER version of the song, this time done with somebody named Turbo B.

https://www.discogs.com/release/43492-Snap-Introducing-Turbo-B-The-Power-Remix

This is all totally WTF.
