is soulseek knackared for everyone else?

the other possible solution may be downloading the following soulseek version: http://sk.nikita.cx/slsk137temp.exe which supposedly might bypass the domain search at startup (or something). I post this here because last night there was an admin message mentioning this file as a quick fix for people not able to log on. i have no idea whether it works or not.

bottom line: soulseek is working, i've had mine on for the past two days. try the first solution. btw on my comp the path is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (xp pro)

Slsk been ackin' the fool since last night. Searches for 'the beatles' pull up three or four tracks. What gives, p2p?

I haven't had sou1s33k work well for me in several months. Searches like "David Bowie" come up with maybe ten or eleven tracks.

I think they might be filtering certain search requests. Like I had the new White Stripes album on my wishlist for months and it never came up with anything. I got it off bittorrent eventually. Whereas I can search for obscure anarcho-punk bands and find loads of old demos ripped from cassettes fairly easily.

Which if true is kinda worrying cos that's what happened to Audiogalaxy.

Hasn't been for ages. There is a test version on a different server but I've not found it to be any better (worse, probably).

I haven't had an Slsk issues recently. Every so often, search is fruitless, but for the most part, it's been solid.

In fact, I went on free jazz download binge, largely inspired by the OP10 free jazz records list here on ILM. THANKS ILM!

I haven't used it in months. When i do its just for chat. Hardly got anything off it this year apart from the odd live gig. I just dont seem to download much anymore.

I "stole" it to see if it's any good. It isn't. Now I don't need to waste money on it. If Jack "Whingey" White wants me to spend money on his music he should make better music.

Someone that was only sharing 44 files just got a song off me without me noticing. I banned there ass and sent them this message: "OH HO YOU IN THE BANNED NOW BAD BUBBA!". They haven't replied.

Are they free from RIAA scrutiny? I have lost track of where cases against downloaders are by now, but wasn't the idea always that the RIAA took legal action against people SHARING songs, rather than downloading them?

that was my impression but I don't know or remember where I got it from or whether it's true anymore. the only things I share are tracks and albums by artists and labels not associated with the RIAA though.

microsoft limit on tcp connections causing anyone's 515k's to crash?

was working for me just minutes ago but I'm running it through emulated xp, not sure if that would make a difference though (shouldn't)

works on mine. Are you sure its tcp? Check your Event Viewer (control panel -> admin tools) and see if there's any warnings for tcpip (under System). And if it is, get a system patch - make sure you know what you're doing though.

No probs with the software itself per se...but I DID spend an hour just last night undoing the damage resulting from some goof with eight thousand files in a single frickin' folder. I mean, it's generous to share so many files, but chrissakes, guy...

I've been putting off switching to the new version. In time, in time.

When that happens, cut off your internet connection first, and then launch slsk and delete the dl lines. Will be much faster.
