Fee Fie Fo, FUNFNFUINFLFF! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

I know Im not voting for "Bad" or Billy Idol. That's all I know.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

5. Levert - Casanova
6. Fleetwood Mac - Lies
7. Expose - Let Me Be The One

9. Swing Out Sister - Breakout

I mean COME ON

Fee Fie Fo, FUNFNFUINFLFF! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

How come I remember this top 10 like it was yesterday, but I don't even remember what I was doing yesterday?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

Was "Lies" really 1987? For some reason I had that as more "Hold Me" era...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

I think "U Got the Look" was the first time I realized you could make a guitar sound any way you wanted.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

I think that should be "Little Lies" xo

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

haha, xo

meant xp

Really? The synth sound is the giveaway for me.

The synth sound is the giveaway for me.

Hmm, I can see that.

This top ten should come down to which song has the most indelible chorus.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

For a second I'm all "INEDIBLE chorus?"

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

No, that would be "Mony Mony"'s.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

fuck I love "Casanova" so much, voting for it over Prince & Bruce which ~blows my mind~ given my love for those songs too.

Euler, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:16 (fifteen years ago)

This is an unfuckwithable streak:

5. Levert - Casanova
6. Fleetwood Mac - Lies
7. Expose - Let Me Be The One
8. Prince - U Got The Look
9. Swing Out Sister - Breakout
10. Bruce Springsteen - Brilliant Disguise

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

Had to go with the last truly great Springsteen single off his last truly great album; at the time it definitely was Prince.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

I'm fond of the Tiffany song too for leading to Weird Al's "I Think I'm A Clone Now".

Euler, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

Better than Idol's cover too.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

EZ, I was about to go after you, but I sort of agree with the "last truly great album" caveat. Plenty of great singles since 1987, though.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

yeah 5-10 is best of the decade of material and the top 4 is just lolz.

_▂▅▇█▓▒░◕‿‿◕░▒▓█▇▅▂_ (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

I think there have been good Springsteen songs since '87, but I haven't like the sound of anything since then if that makes sense. Still can write a tune, but I'd rather someone else perform them.

xpost to Fever

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

"Causing a Commotion" is distinctly second-tier Madonna that I love without reservation.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

ghost of tom joad ain't bad xp

please sb me (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

Wish you'd picked a week with "What Have I Done to Deserve This?"...Between Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, and Prince for me, but none are personal favorites, so I'd have to relisten. Prince had the best video, I'm pretty sure. Dreadful: "Bad" and "Mony Mony."

clemenza, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 19:13 (fifteen years ago)

Wish you'd picked a week with "What Have I Done to Deserve This?"

"It's A Sin" hit the top ten in a couple of weeks.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

sw00ds and I were both working in a downtown Toronto record store that summer...What's somewhat amazing (and gratifying) is that there's nothing from The Joshua Tree in the top 10. (For me, the drop-off from "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" to "It's a Sin" is huge.)

clemenza, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

7 through 9 is almost impossible for me to pick from. Those three are, like, all-time taking a shower/washing the dishes/cooking food sing-a-long faves.

"ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ME FEEL THIS WAY-EE-EE-EE!!!"

"YOU GOT THE LOOK!!! (you got the look) YOU MUSTA TOOK (you musta took) A WHOLE HOUR JUST TO MAKE UP YOUR FACE, BAY-BAY!!!"

"LAY DOWN THE LAW SHOUT OUT FOR MORE BREAKOUT AND SHOUT DAY IN DAY OUT, BREAKOUT!!!"

There is no choice.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 19:42 (fifteen years ago)

I was listening to the radio non-stop back in '87, but I can't for the life of me remember these songs, at least by name:

Madonna - Causing a Commotion
Levert - Casanova
Expose - Let Me Be The One
Swing Out Sister - Breakout

I would've thought songs from The Joshua Tree and Appetite For Destruction would've been on this list.

i'm really feeling the tiffany song lately. idk if i can actually vote for it though

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

It's terrific -- its generic programming is part of its charm. She really does sound like a horny teenager.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

I had no idea that Swing Out Sister song was a hit in America too.

I Ain't Committing Suicide For No Crab (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:44 (fifteen years ago)

I want to vote for "Casanova," because I love that song so much & love Levert too, but "U Got the Look" is one of my favorite Prince tunes & "Brilliant Disguise" is for me one of the best songs Springsteen ever wrote.

les yeux sans aerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:50 (fifteen years ago)

Every single from Tunnel of Love is gold.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:56 (fifteen years ago)

went U Got the Look over Lies, but good tunes!

Dominique, Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:57 (fifteen years ago)

Am I alone in thinking that Fleetwood Mac were the only boomer band still making music the kids could like? I was in eighth grade when "Little Lies," "Big Love," and "Seven Wonders" were hits, but they were all loved and hummed.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 13 July 2010 22:58 (fifteen years ago)

Vote, damn you!

This was the first quarter of my freshman year at college . . . lol old ;_;

Anyway, Prince was and still is the top jam on this list.

Phil D., Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:20 (fifteen years ago)

Tiffany is always better in my head than it is in practice. Voted Mac because the chorus hooks are killer, even though I think Bruce had the better overall song.

when did George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You" get released? I remember singing that a lot at some unspecified point in th elementary-school era of my life....

The Uncanny X-Men feat. Jah Wobble & Keith Levene (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:03 (fifteen years ago)

It hit #1 in January '88.

hard to choose between the prince, FM and bruce songs but i went with bruce cos the lyrics give that edge. also agree with whoever said upthread that this was from the last truly great bruce LP.

Michael B, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

No Exposé votes? That song is incredible.

I like "What You Don't Know" a little more...

Don Henley was still assaulting the charts well into 1990.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

yeah but were the kids singing along to "The Last Worthless Evening"?

The Uncanny X-Men feat. Jorma Kaukonen & Grace Slick (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

Prince vs. Madonna ... probably like most months in this time period

Eric H., Wednesday, 21 July 2010 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

Going with "Breakout" for sheer nostalgia most likely.
