I'm getting super psyched about my baby girl, due to enter this world in about 3 months. What would be some solid baby jams I could use to sing her to sleep?
― kkvgz, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 21:11 (fifteen years ago)
Like, i'll probably just end up singing some shit that I make up, but what are some cool rock or r&b songs to help a kid fall asleep?
― kkvgz, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 21:16 (fifteen years ago)
Damn! No answers?

Someone else posed this question once, and one of the replies was "Love to Love You Baby," which both then and now I still find absolutely hilarious.

Not sure where you are, but in Canada, the Chapters chain has a whole series of CDs where they redo somebody's catalog as lullabys. I've bought the Ramones volume for two different friends. They've got Radiohead, Metallica, Kayne West, etc. Here's a link for the Ramones one:

I love playing 'Spider and I' by Brian Eno to my baby. Also Alan Lomax singing 'All the Pretty Little Horses'.
― spectra, Thursday, 15 July 2010 08:32 (fifteen years ago)
Nick Cave's version of 'All The Pretty Little Horses' is better IMHO.
Also, this gorgeous song by Peter Hammill:

Great - or at least interesting - suggestions everybody! I'm less interested in the Rockabye Baby stuff or particular artists versions of songs, since I want to come up with stuff that I can sing to her. But thanks!

Oh my god, "Afterhours" XD

When my son was little I used to sing the old bluegrass standard "Buffalo Gals" a lot, with the lyrics changed to "Little baby Evan needs to go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep..."
And once I sang "Frankie and Johnny" and caused his first real fit of giggling.

also, this isn't really intuitive, but my dad's lullaby for me and my brother/sister (like every night until we were 3) was three little birds.

there's that scene in the Royle Family, which I wish I could find the YouTube, where they're cooing over a baby and humming along to "No Surprises".

probably the whole oeuvre of neil young. there is even a bookon neil young by navid kermani where he finds out the only way to soothe his crying baby girl is to play her neil young songs on the stereo.

A couple years ago my (about 4 at the time) daughter was having trouble sleeping, so I sang her the Beatles Good Night. She got real quiet and drifted off, so I was quite proud of myself. A couple weeks later she had the same problem, so I started singing it again and she screamed "I hate that song! Why do you sing it?"
