What's the opinion on Fleet Foxes... they seem to emulate baroque harmonies in several of their songs. I had other things in mind when starting the thread but they could fit the bill.

I remember being fond of Ataraxia and Dead Can Dance when I was younger, although in retrospect they took too much refuge in darkwave and new age for their own good.

Moka, Friday, 16 July 2010 00:04 (fourteen years ago)

Serpent's Egg by Dead Can Dance is good medieval stuff, and bits of Aion. The rest is a bit goth heavy (though still good)

i kind of hate the idea of fleet foxes, but i like a handful of their songs -- a lot.

I could name a lot of renaissance/early music ensembles but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Gryphon seconded. Crumhorns!

ρεμπετις, Friday, 16 July 2010 03:46 (fourteen years ago)

Richie Blackmore from Deep Purple is pretty much only making this kind of music now. I haven't heard it and don't really know if it is a good "renaissance style" band or not.

Yeah sure! They're pretty popular in latinamerica... even saw them once live. They were really fun... although I dont know why I was expecting them to dress in medieval fashion and instead they went onstage as some sort of drag queens and sailors. Go figure.

Moka, Friday, 16 July 2010 05:24 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yes I used the 'go figure' phrasing wrong up there didn't I? Meant to say I was utterly confused by it.

Moka, Friday, 16 July 2010 05:26 (fourteen years ago)

The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud. It's... well, it's a bit scary, but amazing.

This band deserves a lot better. I can't stop listening to the Early Music Consort's version of this song.
