this is super fucking hard btw

t( :D t) (jjjusten), Saturday, 17 July 2010 06:54 (fourteen years ago)

No - Cab's "Nag" is uber-classic.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Saturday, 17 July 2010 07:45 (fourteen years ago)

Mad that they chose "Dig It" over "Assimilate" so I'm voting Cab in protest (but also because "Nag x3" is good).

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 17 July 2010 08:03 (fourteen years ago)

would have preferred "beers, steers, and queers" for revco, but man most of these picks are kinda dead on (agree wrt assimilate tho)

t( :D t) (jjjusten), Saturday, 17 July 2010 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

About to say, this actually...works? Who was the compiler?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 July 2010 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

Also kinda impressed that while they should've included DAF and didn't, they didn't have Nitzer Ebb in their place.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 17 July 2010 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

I might have to pick this up - pretty great comp. Voted Meat Beat because of warm personal memories, but so many great tracks to choose from.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 17 July 2010 18:13 (fourteen years ago)

Given that this was released in 1999, I'm willing to bet it was compiled by Dave Segal and Jason Pettigrew. Which explains why the track listing doesn't suck.

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Saturday, 17 July 2010 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

Mike Shea & Jason Pettigrew from AP, Eric Kayser & Desey Tziortzis from Rhino according to the liner notes

"Hamburger Lady" is Rock is it? Anyone told Gen?

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:56 (fourteen years ago)

rock bands be cribbing from TG whether he 'approves' or not

Just what is she studying? ABSLOLUTE STUPIDITY? (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:19 (fourteen years ago)

The TG, EN, and Ministry tracks are all favorites. Tough to choose between them though clearly Hamburger Lady came first and couldn't really be more perfect.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:21 (fourteen years ago)

"hamburger lady" transcends music and becomes some horrifying audio environment, so that

Kick To Kill - Test Department

I seriously have not thought about this song in like 20 years

HI DERE, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 14:20 (fourteen years ago)

and yeah, there are about a bazillion Skinny Puppy songs I would have chosen over "Dig It" ("Assimilate" was definitely on the list, but also "The Choke", "Smothered Hope", "Deep Down Trauma Hounds", "Addiction", "Icebreaker", "Worlock", "Tin Omen" and "Tormentor")

HI DERE, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

so many good songs. tracks 1 - 10 completely unfuckwithable all-time material

不合作的方式 (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

I think I'm registering a sockpuppet for each song

HI DERE, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 14:33 (fourteen years ago)

This comp should have added a track each from early C93, NWW, DIJ and Swans and dispensed with some of the later dreck.

margana (anagram), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

... SPK

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

then it wouldn't be the 'The Framework of Industrial Rock' wouldit?

I was sleep so I was lost (herb albert), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 15:11 (fourteen years ago)

Why not?

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 15:13 (fourteen years ago)

then it wouldn't be the 'The Framework of Industrial Rock' wouldit?

But TG, Non, CV and TD weren't strictly "rock" either and they're on it.

xp

^^^ all time

crispy hexagon sun (crüt), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

xp TG et al weren't rock but laid the foundations and moved into beat-oriented stuff, which leads into the WaxTrax Industrial Rock, whereas I see NWW, C93 and Death In June mining different territory. early Swans and SPK definitely fit.

I would've chosen 'Discipline' for the TG track but yeah, so hard to choose

I was sleep so I was lost (herb albert), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

comp could use these two

(e_3) (Edward III), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

That is not the Neubauten track I would have chosen.

Anyway, I voted TG. That song has just meant so much to me for such a long time.

Ministry track is all time, but somehow seems more dated. I guess I like a lot of other tracks on that album better (Golden Dawn, I'm looking at you...)

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 20:32 (fourteen years ago)

Seems like some Big Black and Godflesh would have been nice additions to this comp, but I realize there was a serious attempt at purism, distillation and economy.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

that album is all about "The Land of Rape and Honey", "You Know What You Are" and "Flashback"

good times were had when I convinced my mom to buy me that album based on the argument that it was synth-based dance music despite what the cover looked like and the reaction we had when I put the cassette in the car's player on the ride home... oops

he does NOT have the training (HI DERE), Tuesday, 20 July 2010 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

Negativland - "Christianity Is Stupid" should also be on this album

Maybe 'Halloween' by Ministry and 'TV Mind' by RevCo would be more in keeping? And what about Young Gods? 'Fais La Mouette' or 'Envoye!' perhaps...

Duran (Doran), Sunday, 15 August 2010 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

missed this. surprisingly good selection albeit with a VERY poor revco choice.

stirmonster, Sunday, 15 August 2010 10:59 (fourteen years ago)

This needs to be a box set. Rhino, get on it. (But not until you do a second girl groups box.)
