Original poll here: Donna Summer: Bad Girls poll

Even though that poll didn't get a lot of votes, I wanted to do CD2 of the deluxe edition I just bought because it was a nice little bonus. I also hope that this poll has more interest as it adds some great singles.

i'm thinking "Last Dance" without a doubt but will take a listen before voting.

"I Feel Love" will win, but this list includes three of the greatest singles in music history.

Went with "Hot Stuff" over IFL and, to my surprise, "Walk Away"; it took the 12" mix of the latter to hear its strength.

Would love to hear Bam babble about this (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 02:41 (fourteen years ago)

What I tell you? That song is the unheralded gem of Bad Girls.

Eric H., Wednesday, 21 July 2010 02:42 (fourteen years ago)

oddly, some of her biggest 70s hits aren't on this disc (e.g., love to love you).

I can only rule out "No More Tears" and "Hot Stuff" right away, but beyond that it starts getting tough.

does anyone know if there is a difference for "Bad Girls" album version at 4:55 and "Bad Girls" 12" single version also at 4:55? are these the same mix?

Bee OK, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 04:05 (fourteen years ago)

found my answer via Wiki:

A 12" single of the song was released as a medley with "Hot Stuff". Although "Hot Stuff" was extended for the 12" single, "Bad Girls" remained in the 4:55 album version. A "Bad Girls" 12" single with a time of 6:55 was produced but never released commercially. A demo version of the song was released on the "Deluxe Edition" of the "Bad Girls" CD.

Honestly, can we say Kraftwerk's Metropolis AND Spacelab were not deeply inspired by this?

listening to those for the first time, thanks.

No disrespect to Kraftwerk, and the cross-pollination between the two camps is possibly overstated, but her work with Moroder (almost) makes those Germars redundant.

It's just crazy to think of all the 77/78 acts/songs inspired by I Feel Love (Arpadys, Droids, Ecama, Kebekelektrik, Space, Automat, etc.), Kraftwerk were the least inventive.

*Germars = Germans. Maybe Germars were an obscure Teutonic synth tribe.

The "MacArthur Park Suite", as featured on the the Bad Girls Deluxe Edition is from the 12-inch vinyl single, and it is not the original album version. This version can only be found now on The Dance Collection CD, the original Live and More vinyl LP album, and the Japanese CD issue of Live and More. The differences are these: in the 12-inch version, "Heaven Knows" was extended to incorporate the string introduction and the bridge horn solo of the single version for radio stations, and "One of a Kind" was trimmed of some percussion breaks.

from You Tube:

During the recording of the song, Summer is said to have passed out and fallen off her chair having been out partying the night before. Streisand supposedly carried on singing her long note and waited until she had finished it before stopping and asking Summer if she was okay. Another rumour regarding the song is that Streisand's son, Jason Gould, is the one who talked his mother into recording the duet as he was a fan of Summer's work.
