Busta Rhymes S/D

One of the topics in ILX AIM chat a few weeks back was Mr Rhymes, and how come he's never regarded in any esteem whatsoever by anyone really. Damn shame. One of the most consistently successful rappers of the 90s, dropped off a bit in the past few years, but still... "Get Out". It's "Get Out". It's possibly the best rap track ever.

Anyway, S and D.

I think he's pretty brilliant, personally....and I'm not a big hip hop fan.

Search: The singles, really...notably "Whoo-Ha (Got You All in Check)," "Break Yo Neck", "Gimme Some More," "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can see" (forgive me if I'm failing to inject the proper [mis]spellings).

Destroy: the Anarchy album.

"Get Out" is atrocious!!!

"Gimme Some More" and "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" are both sublime, though - there's nobody who realises the hypnotic power of slightly-varied end-of-line rhymes quite like him, and the grooves are delicious. Classic.

Is this really saying anything?

He's certainly more imaginative than most of his peers, in his lyrical delivery, visual aesthetic and all other aspects of his presentation.

Tim in Agreeing With Alex in NYC Shockah!!!

Although I think "Gimme Some Mo" and "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" are the sort of thing he does best, what surprises me about Busta is how well he does more straightforward/pop stuff - "Pass The Courvoisier Part II" is hardly rocket science in sound *or* delivery, but he still sounds so irresistible bizarre. Likewise "What's It Gonna Be" - as sweet as fairy floss but quite alien at the same time.

i love his throwaway track/skit on the last missy album, like he's just about to start rapping, but then backs off before he can get going...

three years pass...
Revive/update please?

Interested in suggestions for a 15-song (say) Rough Guide to Busta. Include guest/remix appearances as appropriate.

Thanks.

The most interesting thing about Busta for me is how he has done so well on the strength of his singles alone. I think the best advice anyone can ever give you about Busta Rhymes is NEVER buy an album by him, they always follow the same pattern of about 2 really strong singles, a few other songs that are alrightish and ten or so terrible filler songs that you wont ever listen to again.

That and the only way he's changed in the last ten or so years has been when he recently started referring to himself as "The Kid", which he now takes delight in shouting out at least once every single song. Nevertheless, his flow and his voice sound amazing and some of his party songs are pure crack, truely the best way to enjoy Busta is to perchase a greatest hits cd, or ask around for the best songs like this topic is doing. On that note, I really like:

"Break your neck"
"What it is right now"
"I'll hurt you" (Try not to get the one with the verse from Eminem as he's talking about poo again)
"Gimme some more"
"salute da godz"
That one with Janet Jackson.. "Whats it gonna be" I think it's called.
"Put your hands where my eyes can see"

Thats all that spring to mind right now.
