i'm not interested in live tracks so much. i'm curious if there are any studio outtakes, backing tracks, etc. i imagine that there aren't many, since the abba dudes ran such a tight ship. but maybe...?

I'm pretty certain there's nothing, a trawl of the usual sites hasn't turned up anything.

it is a good idea for there to be these though

The nearest is 'ABBA Undeleted', which was put together by Michael Tretow and released on a couple of box sets. Other than that, nothing.

21. Dancing Queen (U2) (4:09)
On one of the most surreal nights of Bono's life, U2, live in Stockholm, are joined on stage by Benny and Björn.

an abba fan w/ a lot of time on his hands put this together for youtube based on the extant demos - the melody is total earworm:

There was a time when I actively sought out every Abba recording and I think I have heard EVERY ONE, every album...I even own the Frida album with Phil Collins, it is awesome....but listening to them via crappy YouTube takes ALL the color out of the music!!

Here is the blog with the ABBA stuff, better videos including live so you can see their crazy costumes :http://justlikeabba.blogspot.com/

o wait: "But the biggest boon for collectors is the final bonus track, “From a Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel,” a collection of demo excerpts from the making of the album. This marks one of the few times since the band’s dissolution that entirely unreleased, unheard material has been unearthed from the vaults. (The last occurence was in a 23-minute track on ABBA’s Thank You for the Music box set in 1994.)"

Yeah it's probably going to be another cut'n'paste collection of bits like 'ABBA Undeleted'. That track was interesting, but it wouldn't be worth paying for another copy of 'The Visitor' plus a DVD of ABBA TV appearances just to hear it.

interesting! ABBA Undeleted was great i thought. i'd love to hear more. i wonder if there was ever somehwere online that translated all the Swedish studio chatter on 'Undeleted'? i'd love to know what they were saying.

hey didn't most of the un-used Visitos tracks end up as stuff like this ..

i'd love to know what they were saying.

benny: what was that shit?
bjorn: i dunno, what a terrible take.
benny: maybe in 30 years we can sell this to people as a montage of outtakes and get them to buy all our albums for the ninth time!
bjorn: not a bad thought.
benny: ok, engineer, save that reel.

lol. here's a thing. i have the blue abba complete box that came out in 2005 but the sound on the box is meant to terrible compared to the recent album by album reissues. anyone got the newer reissues? do they sound that much better? there's some truly some rotten editing on the DVD video disc i know that much; looks like it was hacked together frm some crummy VHS.

piscesx, Thursday, 26 January 2012 00:50 (thirteen years ago)

terrible compared to the recent album by album reissues.

hmmmmmm

i thought the most recent series of abba reissues were like evidence A for the anti-compression argument.... and the consensus was that the late 90s reissues were tops in terms of dynamics.
