...you have a band called the Hoosiers over there? Why?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

At the moment, it's recognised as The Orb and "Blue Room", although "Boy Girl" Aphex Twin may well be it.

xpost I have no idea. Apparently, they come from Woodley (Reading, Berks) which panes me...

Even though A&A insisted on making a version of "Goodbye Mr A"...

Mark G, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

How long are those Orb and Aphex Twin songs? 'Cause I thought Chris Butler, of Tin Huey, had this locked years ago:

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE* - July 24th 1997
FROM: Chris Butler/Future Fossil Music
TO: The Known World

"The Devil Glitch", my 69-minute song that contains over 500 verses, has just been acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records to be the "World's Longest Pop Song".

In a letter dated July 11th, Managing Editor Christine Heilman informed me that the song will be included in the 1998 U.S. edition as tops in this category. Although I didn't write the song to break any record, it is one more exciting accolade that this unique project has generated, and I am honored to be selected.

The song isn't really 43 minutes - it's a Hoosiers record so it only seems that long.

Unfortunately....

Mark G, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

Does England also have bands called The Scarlet Knights and The Blue Devils and Army and Navy?

dlp9001, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 23:25 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't someone do an 8 hour remix of a radiohead track?

Also, "It's a small world" still going on infinite loop.

Scouting For Girls should release a 44min single and get them into some kind of lame 2007 bands arms race.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

It would be like BLur v Oasis, except crap. I mean crapper.

12 foot mix? Blimey!

Mark G, Thursday, 5 August 2010 12:26 (fifteen years ago)

They're going to have to use a train turntable to play it.

Sound changes

The piece started with a rest of seventeen months, beginning September 5, 2001, which was the 89th anniversary of Cage's birth. The first audible sound appeared on February 5, 2003. Further dates for changing notes are:

* July 5, 2004
* July 5, 2005
* January 5, 2006
* May 5, 2006
* July 5, 2008

* February 5, 2011
* August 5, 2011

I just heard part of "Choices" on Radio1, and my irrational desire has turned into a rational desire to avoid it.

Mark G, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

OK, so I bought/downloaded it.

I put it onto a CDr, along with the most/least wanted music as per

I played it in the car to Amber, and discussed the first two tracks (and now she wants the least wanted one on her ipod)...

The hoosiers one just seems to be a forever repeating version of the single with a couple of verses substituted for new words. Some of them are quite amusing, a couple were quite dull, and hey presto they were/are the original ones!

I was hoping for a ton of lyrics to justify this process (like Elvis C's Tokyo Storm Warning), but it seems to take 2 mins for each new verse to come by, a lot of instrumental filler, and I still havent made it to the end yet. It only serves to remind how studio-bound some music is in generation. "Sad eyed lady of the lowlands" it isn't.

Oh, and it's called "Stop giving me verses" if you want to find it.

oops:

I put it onto a CDr, along with the most/least wanted music as per Komar and Melamid

Carry on..
