As far as I can tell, there hasn't been any Alternative Tentacles thread. If someone finds otherwise, just lock this or whatever.
Aside from DK, all I really know about classic AT is Nomeansno, Alice Donut, and various things that had Jello in them, like Lard. What about any of the rest of this shit? Tragic Mulatto, the Crucifucks, Les Thugs - are they any good?
Virus 51 was actually a band called The Jungle Studs, which featured D.H. Peligro and Steve DePace from Flipper.

The Crucifucks are great - it's punk, but funny and weird

The Beatnigs album was good, or at least it seemed so at the time.
Saw Les Thugs a couple of times way back when. Don't really associate them with AT so much. They're okay, but kind of samey. All the albums of theirs that I ever heard all sounded kinda like the Pixies playing Isla De Encanta over and over and over.

Actually they probably rocked a lot harder than that tbh, but still the same basic dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga

Oh, first Buttholes EP is **totally** crucial, but you knew that anyway.

Les Thugs were great! They only had 1 album on AT tho.
I guess they are kinda samey but that's their thing - it's like drone-punk or something. I love it.

Some lesser known stuff:
Teddy & The Frat Girls (FUCKED UP noise punk)The Fartz (kickass hardcore)Grong Grong (Flipper-ish dirge)BGK (thrash thrash thrash)Doc Corbin Dart (hauntingly weird LP from ex-Crucifucks singer)
They've done loads of great reissues recently too.

GRong Grong! Did they not do some other Oz punk scree that I can't think of right now? Bloodloss or someone?

Some bands I've actually liked on Alternative Tentacles in just the past few years:
Slim Cessna's Auto ClubTh' Inbred (reissue)16 Horsepower (reissue)Cross Stitched Eyes (EP)Woodbox GangAmebix (reissue)The Eat (reissue)Ludicra (EP)F-MinusBurning Image (reissue)Zolar X (reissue)Drunk Injuns (reissue)
Also like the Grong Grong reissue from this year, on Aberrant Records out of Australia. Kind of disconcerting to realize my tastes apparently overlap with Jello Biafra's so much.

Oh shiiiiiit, Drunk Injuns got reissued?
― kkvgz, Friday, 30 July 2010 14:08 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, in 2002. CD is called From Where The Sun Now Stands I Will Fight No More, Forever.
And actually, come to think of it, the Woodbox Gang, Slim Cessna and F-Minus albums I like are technically collections of older tracks (just not real old) too, I guess.
Still possibly my favorite "indie" rock label of the past decade. Which is weird, because I was never really much of a Dead Kennedys fan at all. (Have always loved those first two Buttholes EPs, though.)

Grong Grong reissue was pretty damned godly as noted. That DVD footage!

Seem to remember enjoying the Stickdog album when that came out. An industrial sort of racket that was maybe somewhere between Swans and Savage Republic.
