Why is enjoying a good mellow summer album charlatanry?

ILM liked Person Pitch a lot because of the Kompakt name check in the liner notes, but then Merriweather Thingy Pavilion happened and we all signed new contracts to despise everything to do with Animal Collective so as to stay one step ahead of some imagined stereotypical Pitchfork reader

(I've never actually knowingly heard Person Pitch, but based on the descriptions bandied about at the time, I didn't think it was going to be Kate-friendly TBH.)

Re: Animal Collective, I can't look at Deakin's name without thinking of "You stole Deacon's Easter basket!" from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

When in reality, 75% of ILM folks also check the Pfork site at least weekly.

One thing to know is that if you click on a thread about one of your favorite artists that started out 8 years ago, you might find yourself getting angry--but before you compose a response to some poster who's long gone, scroll to the bottom for the more recent posts where everyone is all "lol old-ILX challops."

As amazing as ILM is you may not find much discussion about your favorite obscure/semi-obscure bands unless Pitchfork praises them
