Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, George Michael

Not the biggest fan of any these four, but they all have at least one song I really like, which can't be said about the other four.

Tuomas, Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:33 (fifteen years ago)

You don't like any ON-J songs?

All I wanted was a Pepsi and she wouldn't giveittome. (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

Never heard any.

Tuomas, Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:37 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wait, did she do "Xanadu"? That's a good song, but I prefer the Finnish version to the original.

AC/DC, Olivia Newton-John, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin

Really have no qualms about not picking Dolly (who I often love), oddly enough. The one wild card is Julio Iglesias, who I've only recently realized can make very beautiful music, and whose music I wish I knew more. Not that I'll probably ever have the energy to investigate it. (Solo/Post-Beatles McCartney -- which I assume is what we're voting for here -- seems way beyond spotty to me, but Wings Greatest is indeed mostly great.)

^^^picking AC/DC over Dolly damn near broke my heart... most difficult choice on any poll ever for me. :'(

A plea for Olivia Newton-John votes:

Dolly Parton, Olivia Newton-John, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin

This was the bracket of spotty discographies for me with the exception of Led Zep and pleading ignorance on Julio Iglesias.

I would love to hear this Finnish version of Xanadu! I found the DVD of Xanadu at a thrift store yesterday, which means yesterday was magic.

spanikopitcon (Abbott), Monday, 9 August 2010 01:05 (fifteen years ago)

I guess Grease didn't get much play in Finland?

Mick's comedy barking (KMS), Monday, 9 August 2010 05:55 (fifteen years ago)

AC/DC, Olivia Newton-John, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin.

I wd never have thought that AC/DC vs Dolly Parton would be a difficult question but now I think about it it really is! The rest were pretty easy for me.

(normally wd cop massive contrarian stance re McCartney but when faced with an alternative like Julio Iglesias I've got to admit that actually I like plenty of his stuff, even post-Beatles)

Oh, and I'd also like to hear the Finnish version of Xanadu. Is it on youtube?

Ha, my vote is the anti-lex. Figures!

rah rah rah wd smash the oiks (a passing spacecadet), Monday, 9 August 2010 12:41 (fifteen years ago)

voted Dolly Parton, Olivia Newton-John, Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin

guess this is the obvious choice based on reading the thread?

I'm always surprised when Olivia Newton-John gets played on the classic country radio station here, but she's had quite a bit of country chart success; it's not just Grease & Xanadu.

I'm on Dolly's side all the way. surprised at the ONJ showing tho, but maybe that's just cuz of who she was paired against

It's totally because of who she's paired with.
