fans of gothed out torch singers like diamanda galas, jarboe, beth gibbons, take note

found a blog post on her about three weeks ago. like her a lot. I think my favorite release overall is that 1963 3-song 7" single, the one that ends with 'Czarne anioly' -- those bells on the chorus they make no total sense

weird, hive mind @ work
supposedly she preferred the single versions to the album versions
my polish grandmother would be disappointed that I'm not sure how to pronounce her name... I'm thinking it's something like ava day-mar-check?

personally, I never liked her very much, but maybe I'm just biased to her, she's kinda popular in this partsI've always been much more of a Marek Grechuta's fan, check him out too, if you like Demarczyk

I don't know her, but I'm liking the songs linked to above (at least somewhat).

sounds like dude in documentary clip on youtube pronounces her first name EH-vey

there's something so over the top about her it's almost ridiculous but then she nails these moments of subtlety and grace
the first half of this clip is one of her maudlin narcotic numbers that I love. the back half I don't even know what to say, just in awe of the way she can ride a wave of song, kudos to mr tambourine mustache and the beatnik violinist for keeping up with her... man, the terror in her eyes at the end and then she stomps off like a total diva

maybe she's some overbearing icon of cultural history in poland but this is some transcendent shit from where I'm sitting
― (e_3) (Edward III), Monday, 16 August 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)
in the oh 10
It'd be more like EH-va De-MAR-chick. The way the presenter says in the above YouTube right before the first song is the above YouTube is the basic way to say it (when you hear him say the first name differently, it's just because in Polish you'd have to conjugate the first name depending on context).
(that'll be the end of your Polish lesson for the day then).

Off topic, but this makes me wonder: how much are the 60s actually known? Do the 60s still largely remain to be discovered or at least more fully discovered, especially if one takes a global perspective? 1967. How many really good albums came out in 1967? It seems like a million.
