It's hard to find information about this on the internet, but I had a few as a kid. They were apparently made by Brite Music (song samples here). The tapes had one side where you could listen to it as a story, and the other side had the main character's dialogue left out, so you the listener could fill it in, which lead to hours of trying to outdo outdo my siblings in funny/snide comments.

In between the dialogue were some sort of corny, very catchy, didactic songs about whatever point they were making. One of the weirder ones was sung by some space robot about the computing concept of GIGO: "garbage in, gargabe out, and that's what they mean by GI-GO." By far my favorite was a scarily cheerful woman singing, "If you tell one lie, it leads to another, so you tell two lies to cover the other..." on "Standin' Tall with Honesty." The confusing is, is this song also showed up on one of those Mormon PSAs in the mid-'80s (around the same time as these tapes), being sung by a group of cheerful burglars or possibly men in bowlers. SO is "Standin' Tall" meant to be Mormon-oriented? Although they're just about 'values' and not God, they still come off as something meant for the religious.

I also remember seeing TV shows of the one on obedience, BUT this was a long time ago so it could have been just some lousy-quality Christian cartoon.

I don't know if anyone else has encountered or grown up with these. If so, I would love to hear about it. I tend to have good luck on this board posting about something no one knows, and then the creator googles it and ends up starting a conversation with me. I'm secretly hoping this happens here...

Who is forgiving who in that 'forgiveness' picture?

Yet again you have turned something boring/tedious/educational/religious into something awesome.

Ok, that explains why no one outside Utah/Idaho has ever heard of these.

AND why the "If You Tell One Lie" got farmed out to the Mormon ad. I wish I could see that ad with the burglars...they had a VHS tape of all those ads in seminary. I wonder if it's available on the Mormon website.
