So, can anyone ID the sample at the start of Morrissey's "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday?"

Hi! I used to lurk on this board for pretty much the entire time I was in college. Anyway. It's been years. This feels a little bit like a reunion.

Um: help! I'm trying to write something about Morrissey, and I really want to find out the source of the tiny snippet of a 40s show-tune or ballad at the beginning of "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday."

It's about a minute into the song, buried in radio noises. A woman's voice sings, "... just like me." Sounds a little "Somewhere over the Rainbow"-ish to me.

Morrissey has said in interviews that he was just playing around with a radio and has no idea what the song is. (You can listen to the song here if you're curious: http://hypem.com/track/1048972. I've also made an mp3 clip of just that part of the song, which I can send over email.)

Anyone know anything? Or where I should look next?

Sorry, can't help. I did find a Harry Connick Jr song, also called 'Just Like Me', which ends in a very similar way - but as it was written by Connick Jr and appears not to have been released until 1996, four years after Your Arsenal, it can't be related. Maybe ask him where he ripped it off from, if you see him?

Maybe that's a low bitrate stream but I'm not sure whether I'm hearing "just like me" or "just like you."

It's "just like you". But I can't make out the words before "this coffee's just like you", which makes no sense, or "this cock feels just like you", which seems unlikely, or something else.
