this is crazy

like mccartney writing for beefheart

or beefheart writing for mccartney

or something

surf guitar and weird harmonies and blues and freaky synths

you should love this

plus there are tim buckley vibes

zorn_bond.mp3, Sunday, 15 August 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, this record is gorgeous. 'i knew you'd remember' slays me.
the reissue of Goodby Sunball is rad as well. both are MUCH better than that Michael & The Mumbles LP, which borders on nearly-unlistenable fidelity.

Want Goodby Sunball so bad. Lovely Gold is cool but not great to my ears. But then I liked the Michael & The Mumbles album.

Aw but man you can't even hear stuff on that record

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:24 (fifteen years ago)

has scott seward heard this?

somebody give this to scott seward for fucks sake

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

added bonus - hes a really really nice dude irl - seems kinda baffled by the fact that people care about his stuff

gg eileen (jjjusten), Monday, 16 August 2010 00:28 (fifteen years ago)

i haven't heard it! i dig his stuff. i should ask drag city for one for my column. they send me stuff if i ask nicely. though i think i asked for that street called straight reissue and they never sent me one. they did send me the endtables one though and i wrote about that.

scott seward, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:36 (fifteen years ago)

haha scott how do you do that you are awesome

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:40 (fifteen years ago)

gg eileen tell me more of this dude irl

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

does he buy guitars from you???

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

well i do actually have a place to put it if i write about it. in a real magazine. most people send me digital promos though and 99 percent of the time i ignore those. which is why i never post to the metal thread anymore cuz i don't listen to the 50 promos i get in my e-mail every week.

scott seward, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:45 (fifteen years ago)

oh man where are you writing besides decibel so i can subscribe already

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

though fwiw by "how do you do that" i meant "appear upon being summoned"

zorn_bond.mp3, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

Aw but man you can't even hear stuff on that record

It's a little muffled but it sounds okay to me? Maybe my hearing is damaged in exactly the right way.

Grimwood is a good psych folk record.
doesnt sound nothink like beefheart or mccarthy though.

"though fwiw by "how do you do that" i meant "appear upon being summoned"

ah okay. i only write for decibel. i sneak psych reissues into my noise column.

i would try and write for other places if there were any i liked. i actually sent an e-mail to bad acid magazine telling them i'd be happy to write about reissues and stuff for them, but the guy just put out his last issue. i've never actually seen a copy either. the website just looked cool to me.

scott seward, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:55 (fifteen years ago)

i really liked that REALLY noisy album he put out. i bought the vinyl. um, had a green cover. recent stuff. i think. i'd have to look it up. i still have the record somewhere.

scott seward, Monday, 16 August 2010 00:56 (fifteen years ago)

well , he made a much better, noisier tecord as Michael Yonkers Band called Microminiature Love - which is an early punk garage 60's shit from hell.

Zeno, Monday, 16 August 2010 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

that album's the eye, the rest is just pyramid.

_Bad Acid_ is done? They only announced they were going monthly in March (which seemed a bit ambitious to me). Don't recall hearing they'd managed it though.

Wandering Boy Poet, Monday, 16 August 2010 11:51 (fifteen years ago)

I bought this LP from Psychedelic Steve when Plastic Crimewave played here in the Spring.
I really like it but I gave it to my friend, the Yonker's completist, just because it seemed like the right thing to do.
I love the song "Need Your Love" from Michael and The Mumbles.

Trip Maker, Monday, 16 August 2010 14:39 (fifteen years ago)
