hullo,i am wondering if anyone can help me find a song that is just right for my friend's fashion show.
i guess it would help if i described the collection first: it's a long, dark, fluid silhouette, almost like a transparent professor snape. The flowing robes are contrasted with strict aluminium body frames, leather body pieces and hard draped fibreglass 'shawls' that encase the upper body and neck. finally there are bodysuits underneath in an undulating dark grey digital print that looks like an oily black ocean or maybe the grain in stone. so it's sort of like modern architecture (glass, steel, stone, skeletal structure)mixed with medieval sorcery - clean lines but a bit sinister. think rick owens, gareth pugh, the plato's atlantis alexander macqueen collection in greyscale and maybe a tidier, smoother edward scissorhands
she wants something with a cinematic portishead sort of vibe but not too overexposed.it should be relatively uptempo, sort of moody and preferably female vocals. It should sound polished, hopefully impeccably produced with a lot of nice textures in it. A remix could be good. Ideally it would be something recent, and preferably a bit trendy, this year or last year. I thought something from portishead's more recent album, from the broadcast/focus groupcould work, or fever ray, or maybe 'overpowered' by roisin murphy, or aphex twin come to daddy....... but i want something newer and fresher if possible! even some reworking/remix/edit that freshens an old favourite up
i'd really like to hear some other suggestions! even something from out of leftfield that you feel would match the vibe of what i've described - i was even thinking about some christian death sorta thing. is there any incredible electronic gothic stuff out there i don't know about? (very likely)
thank you!

Almost too obvious to suggest it, but The XX seems to tick most of your boxes.

kind of feel the xx might be too subtle/intimate, maybe a bit too static, for something like this? you'd want something with a bit more tempo to soundtrack a catwalk show.
the absolute perfect music for this is we love - http://www.myspace.com/welovewelove - idk when your friend's show is though, the album's not out til september. (so at least it fulfils the fresh and new criteria.)
otherwise, some suggestions from this year...
glasser - tremel (astronomer remix) (not on youtube but on itunes, i expect)
charlotte gainsbourg - irm (diskjokke remix)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNbgvS40wi0
lauren pritchard - stuck (various production remix)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpIGTRzMdiA
nina kraviz - i'm gonna get youhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqh4UE4fIJ0

thank you very much - great suggestions, i will report back whatever she chooses! parade is in september so there is still time for albums to be released etc.... to my ears the charlotte gainsbourg one is a winner what with the echoey suggestive-of-industry beats and the vocal is like an incantation. like that edge on zola jesus vox too...... and the beats on the pritchard.... well i'll pass them all on anyway!!!

Don't know if these are trendy enough, but plumbing for more interesting femme-vox 00's cinematic material.
My Toys Like Me - Set The Trap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inbikOojieY
Zeigeist - Wrecked Metal (the cello version) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEIuZlrlMW8
Pati Yang - All that is thirst https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28sAsvzMW6s
The Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa - I'm (Not Really) Optimistic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKddF9jlW4E
That's all fairly trip-hoppish. If you're looking for something that can't be so easily pegged in time but with modern sonics, may I suggest you give the Sarah Nixey album Sing, Memory a listen. I think it was slept on, but don't know how it fared in the UK.
