curren$y (or currensy i guess) - pilot talk

i wanted to start a thread for this because i think it's really great.

the beats are so smoove

Yeah, I love this album – have played it obsessively for two weeks.

this is pleasantly compensating for my increasing disappointment w/big boi (nb i actually bother to buy like 5 hip-hop albums a year so i gotta pick my spots)--they're both in my car these days and it's been no trouble choosing which one to put on.

i really like how unnatural he can sound rapping abt the standard signifiers (money/cars/girls/etc.)--like a lot of the songs can be read as these blazed daydreams of some guy chillin in his room in nola.

That sounds right.

also: the beats and musical backdrops are way more detailed than I expected.

Liking what I'm hearing.

I love the disc, but I actually don't think he sounds that odd rapping about money/cars/girls.

he definitely has a lackadaisical, circular flow that works for him, tho i disagree that the beats are a selling point here

need to listen again tho

maybe this is a challop, but i think ski is a pretty boring producer

i don't know what else he's done but i think this is super funky--i believe i'm hearing a lot of live bass on it which is rad

i think it's hilarious that after quoting "hard in da paint" he momentarily slips into "b.m.f." as if to illustrate that no one can tell the difference between lex luger beats

i love that "the day" just sounds like somebody took a just blaze beat and notched it down to 70%

i love the production on this album (the live instruments are a great touch) but I still don't "get" curren$y completely... he's obviously a goo rapper but his delivery/voice is just soooooooo monotonous and boring. i feel like all of the people who've jacked his style (wayne, wiz, etc.) do "curren$y" better than curren$y does

this album is better than i thought, but i really love the dynamic that him & wiz have

the thing that's great about him is that it's almost impossible to tell where lines begin and end... he's sort of like someone who raps much faster, except obv currensy is languid as fuck

yeah he just has these run on based or craig finn lines where there isn't really meter he just goes in

I think these beats are gorgeous, languorous things that are actually really interesting if you examine them closely. That statement about Ski is def challops, J0rdan.

yeah he really has found a near perfect balance between rambling and a precise flow & then sometimes he'll hit you with a sliver of a crystal clear image that kind of stops you in your tracks

like on the "super high" remix when he goes "chronic twisted up like fingers and gang signs"

come to think of it, i wish more beats on this album were like "super high" -- more precise and languid, and less busy
