i think the only things i actually have on the clairecords label are the monster movie ep and lp, but both are excellent. also, they have to be the friendliest mail-order service around. i've purchased several cd's from them and they always include a hand-written note and some nifty packaging.

Yeah, the Clair folks are good eggs, ordered a number of things from them. It's so you, Gareth, in terms of lingering gaze buzz. :-) Try the amazingly great Astrobrite album.

And they usually send candy as well. If they have any left, definitely pick up the KG single they put out with Tinseltones (this is the KG from France, not the one on K). Pop and noize the way the Jesus and Mary Chain used to do it, but better.

i used to be pals with those guys... i did parts of the clairecords site for them... totally nice people. super friendly. personalized packaging. very knowledgable and friends with a buttload of bandly folks in the shoegaze and pop communities. (and members of the brittle stars r.i.p.)

almost everything they've put out is amazing. mahogany especially. m.

The Polar albums are ok, but Con Dolore (who they became) are way better. Isobella are v good shoegazery stuff. I adore Malory. The Epithalamia compilation is luvverly. Another situation where the label is so into what they do that you can't really go wrong.

electric sound of jim, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

agree with jim, con dolore is much better than polar although that polar are much better than the polar that is a moose spinoff. malory is the best thing on the label. the new pia fraus album is nice too, a little more buzz to the fuzz.

the early clair stuff is a bit of a drag but they are getting much better. their mail order is tops as well, always stuffing my packages full of candy.

That album is pretty spifftaculous, I do agree. Mmm. I really need to get more of the stuff they've released this year.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Mahogany and Monster Movie are quite nice, some of their earlier releases were slightly too goth for me but it's mosl;ty good if you like hardcore shoegazer stuff

a few years ago, clairecords moved from florida to sacramento and became tonevendor, one of the best stores in the USA:

Polar, Con Dolore, and Isobella are from Florida! Well, I think Isobella is but I know the former two are.

The Jessica Bailiff/What's-Her-Name-from-Experimental-Aircraft collaboration Eau Claire sounded interesting.

vol. 1 is pretty good, the 2 pantone tracks are both really great. i have a few copies, but they go for a pretty penny...the last one i sold was for about $25, i think.
