I am going to hold off of voting until I have given the new one a proper listen, but it's definitely going to be in the running. Also need to reacquaint myself with Tales from the Twilight World.

Early picks though, I'm leaning towards Imaginations from the Other Side -- just seems to be the best blend of everything they did well, like thrash ("I'm Alive"), ballads ("Mordred's Song"), and anthemic metal (the title track). It's hard to choose a winner between this one, Somewhere Far Beyond, and Nightfall in Middle Earth though. and the new album may wedge itself in there.

This thread title is abbreviated in a very unfortunate manner in Zing

Seeing them in a few mins. I am flipping out cos I've been dying to see BG for years.

I am hoping for Welcome To Dying, I'm Alive, or Journey Through the Dark

I guess I missed their NYC show. New album's fantastic, though.

I like it but I miss the days when they rocked our more

seein them again tomorrow. I unfortunately got a little too shitfaced to enjoy the one last year (plus the setlist was a little off - the shows leading up to ours had better choices).

hoping tomorrow fares better.

Tales from the Twilight World has a helluva 1-2 punch to begin

when I get into these dudes, I binge. been playing nothing but BG for weeks.

finally heard Follow the Blind. it's not half-bad! you can hear the makings of what they would become on it, even if it's still a bit Helloween-laden.

the new live album is fun too. it has a live version of one of my favs, "Into the Storm".

The funny thing is, I was a bit of a fan during their first four albums but then lost interest in them by around 1993, but I now keep seeing all these ratings/lists and it appears I've missed their best years.

New album is great.

It's the most guitar-centered album they've done years. It's more like what I expected the sequel to Nightfall to sound like before they went mega-bombast.

Mind you it's not THAT good. Not all the choruses land, like Nightfall, too many ballads, but they're doing the speed power metal again with great leads and energy again. Hansi is throaty again.

Man, Tokyo Tales is fantastic. Super high energy and technically flawless.

Really good rundown of their catalog on Bandcamp Daily yesterday.

but also fuck you (unperson), Thursday, 20 October 2022 14:33 (three years ago)

I have to admit that Somewhere Far Beyond is the last material I've heard of them, I guess I should rectify that.

Siegbran, Thursday, 20 October 2022 16:01 (three years ago)

"Barbara Ann" is such a great punky note to close a power metal show.

jmm, Thursday, 20 October 2022 21:10 (three years ago)

I think I'm entering a serious "Blind Guardian are my favourite band" phase

"Imaginations from the Other Side" summarizes my worldview better than any other song.
