Best Lee Hazlewood LP

wish I could find at least half of these. Of the ones I've heard, its close between Trouble is a Lonesome Town and Cowboy in Sweden. Have yet to hear an album by this guy that I didn't like tbh

it's not his best album but love and other crimes has some outstanding songs

i haven't heard all of these. Trouble, Cowboy, Requiem & 13 are amazing. Poet Fool or Bum is just ok. i think i heard farmshit at one point, but don't remember it. going w/Cowboy

i'll listen to Poet again. i've got it on a 2fer cd w/back on the street again which has a weird 70s sound to it, so maybe i confused the two.

I like Back on the Street too (tho' not as much). The version of "Your Thunder and Your Lightning" on it is great.

Have you heard the version on "For Every Solution There's A Problem?" It doesn't have the manic bass line of the other version, but the guitar on this one is straight out of Link Wray.

I think A House Safe For Tigers is his last great record. I like some of Back On The Streets, but not all. The rest are patchy, saved only because they are Hazlewood records.

"Easy and me and some other guy" kills me every time I hear/think/say it.

I haven't heard all of his albums, but would be very surprised if there would be better than 'Cowboy In Sweden'.

Cowboy in Sweden squeaks past Requiem for me. 13 is horrible, IMO, especially the dud butchering of "I Move Around."

I don't like the arrangements on "13", songs are good. My favourite albums are "Cowboy in Sweden" and "Love and Other Crimes", but then they have some of the same songs on them - "Cowboy" is a sort of compilation after all? All of the albums I've heard have good bordering on great things on them, tho some of the early albums are a bit sketchy and demo-like.

"Back On The Street Again" has "Rider On A White Horse", which is awesome... and "Your Thunder And Your Lightning", "Dolly And Hawkeye" and the title track are almost as good

They aren't re-recordings though, they're exactly the same. Also, was "For a Day Like Today" actually a Suzi-Jane Hokom single?

I think it was some kind of Rhino Handmade type deal originally. I have it, and it's pretty great. (Also $15 cheaper on amazon UK.) Voting for Trouble, though.

Checking track listings, there's actually only one song from "Love and Other Crimes" (I thought there was more) on "Cowboy In Sweden", and two from "Forty"

i saw him once, and the rambling introductions were as entrancing and musical as the songs. interrupting a story about a house safe for tigers with, -man i made some great movies, or dedicating one of the slow ones to the journalists - and their mothers - if they have mothers

the rhino 3 cd seal "Strung Out on Something New" has 3 of his mid to late sixties albums in their entirety plus various singles and production work he did for others
well worth getting if you can find it. One track, Guitar On My Mind - DUANE & MIRIAM EDDY, is very much a proto-Some Velvet Morning.

I picked up the vinyl of this on Record Store Day and it's stunning throughout. I only knew Hazelwood's most famous work (like the Poet, Fool or Bum upthread implies) but this has opened a whole 'nother world.

Regarding the poll I would have gone for Love and Other Crimes, it has an embarrassment of riches and most mere mortals would struggle to have such an abundance of great songs on a best of collection rather than an album. Every Time I listen to That Old Freight Train it reduces me to tears, its a fucking beautiful song.
