Is there really no thread for RAGING SLAB?!

Shame because this progressive boogie metal band has a body of work and a career that deserves attention.

From it's debut Assmaster to it's masterful e.p. True Death, self-titled RCA debut, and a string of spotty releases for Rick Rubin's American records... this is a very special band. They stuck to their guns, doing something very uncool, very well.

The real reason I'm starting this thread is that Raging Slab's indie comeback album The Dealer is now ten years old. I've been hailing it as an absolute fucking CLASSIC since the day it was released. But now with hindsight, I can say it's one of my personal favorite records. It's absolutely jam-packed with sixteen 3-minute GEMS.

Raging Slab are the Beatles of boogie-metal. A questionable distinction, from an uncompromising band.

Yeah, I remember wanting to like them, but always finding them to fall short of the mark. I love metal, and I love the boogie, but somehow they were better in concept than execution, or at least I thought so at the time. I'm willing to reinvestigate as long as it doesn't cost me anything but time, though. To the blogs I go!

True Death and The Dealer are the ones I really stand behind strongly. Their best distributed works (Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert, etc -- never really grabbed me).

I just listened to Pussy Galore's "Right Now!"LP the other day and . . . wasn't "BikerRockLoser" about this band?

It was the "Don't Dog Me" video that got me aware of them way the hell back when. Like a one off showing on Headbanger's Ball around the time of release.

bought a copy of their self-titled major label debut when it came out, having heard good things about their BOR albums and being willing to take a shot on anything even vaguely associated with we were then calling NYC scumrock ™. was hugely disappointed in the sound & songwriting. played it couple times, but never heard anything else by the band.

a dystopian society awaits if we continue on this path. (contenderizer), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 21:11 (fifteen years ago)

one year passes...

Man I have just been discovering the incredible unreleased Slab albumFreeburden. Thank you wikipedia + blogosphere. This is probably my second favorite Slabbage after The Dealer.

Still a band I listen to on a weekly basis.

If all you know are their American recordings, it's time to re-evaluate.
