Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan

now three albums into their collaboration, so it's a fair question to ask at this point. i think they're an ideal duo, with complimentary voices and vibes: campbell is a soft counterpoint to lanegan's grit, and lanegan saves campbell from being too wispy and slight to register. plus, i think this is one of the sexiest rock tracks of the decade:

does the combination work for you? are they distinctive or noteworthy? is it all basically the same, or do some portions of their catalog stand out? (n.1)

(n.1) there are threads devoted to campbell and lanegan individually, but none for the duo together.

i keep trying to listen to the new cd but i keep taking it off. their voices kinda bugged me. i'll try again though. i like the idea of the noir duo. i never really listened to his solo stuff. i never swooned over him. i enjoy swooning, in general. i'm always looking for the swoon-worthy.

I never liked his voice (deep voices rarely do the trick for me) but I listened to their first solo album a couple times and just didn't care

the nation has chosen and it has chosen m.ward and that other lady. who i have never heard. it might be that i just don't trust them for some reason. i never trust an indie rocker over 20. i did like that OP8 album a lot. but i love lisa germano so i kinda had to.

one year passes...

i've heard one of their albums and thought it was terrible. thought their voices were horrible together and each's voice accentuated the annoyingness of the other when juxtaposed. the whole vibe smacks of artifice and phony authenticity too. I give it an F minus.

And yet, they must have done something right, since it managed to generate an A+ reaction like yours.
