I mean seriously, if there's a new album I'm really stoked on I have to save it for a day when there's nothing going on the next day because that shit will resurface at night. I hear to a new song a couple times, enough to get all the big hooks & some minor details etched in memory, and then my brain sets to rehearsing it all when I'm in bed in the dark, rehearsing it in such immersive detail that I can't sleep. Last night I woke up at 2 a.m. to get a drink of water and I didn't get back to sleep until 5 a.m. because I was being kept awake by some new age instrumentals I had been digging earlier in the day. It's even worse when the song has lyrics.
Anyone else have this problem?

short answer: nolong answer: No, but it used to be a real problem for me when I was in my late teens early twenties. Actually it's something I still wish was a problem, that there was something exciting that captured my attention enough that I could obsess over it.

Oh man, this happened again last night: woke up at 3 a.m., got some water, and could not get to sleep because "Tin Man" by America was stuck in my head. "Tin Man" is not new to me, really, but I had listened to it yesterday for the first time in years. SO it was two hours of wakefulness in the Tropic of Sir Galahad against my better wishes.

this happens to me with all new mountain goats albums but almost nothing else strangely

something about the lyrical style puts all sorts of existential dread on my mind for some reason, even things that arent related to the songs themselves

The more like "musical comfort food" it is for me, the bigger the risk. SO Happy Family: unlikely. Enya: awake all night with ethereal overdubs.

on the flip side, beck's 'sea change' never fails to put me to sleep if i'm lying down while listening. not because i think it's boring but just the general production sound/timbre of it all does that to me

^so grateful for that post
haha it's not a regular problem i have (or at least it rarely stops me sleeping) but sometimes some songs are just stupidly catchy
