TS: Steve Hillage vs. Steve Albini

I wanted to make it Steve Albini vs. Steve Fisk, but then I thought that would be too obvious or something (the match-up, I mean, not the result).

So, hippe guitar god Steve Hillage vs. hater of hippie music Steve Albini. Who is the better Steve?

Hillage gets my vote, primarily because of Arzachel, Gong, his first solo album and Rainbow Dome Musick. I have yet to hear System 7, but he did a dub-techno record with Evan Marc that I quite like.

Albini is an overrated has-been

as one of the primary advocates for "analog" recording technology, albini has been setting back sound (and culture) by decades. technology must march forward, no matter the sonic or human cost. if albini is alive when the new society is achieved, he will not be alive for long afterwards.

all "indie" "punk" "rock" and non-digital musics must be erased and destroyed.

Albini is an overrated has-been

Whereas Hillage is very current. He could definitely be in a chillwave band.

Maybe this poll should have been Steve Hillage vs. Steve Howe vs. Steve Hackett. Albini poisons everything.

lool

Arzachel is a better record than most of what Albini has been involved in, though i do think he's an extremely skilled recording engineer if not such a great mixer..

HIllage (though I must admit that article Albini wrote for the Baffler was 100x better than any music he has ever produced.)

hillage easily really. Arzachel, Kahn, gong and about 1/3 of his band solo music I like loads better than the best of Albini's catalog. that said, everything I've heard from system 7 has been v dreary. Both are ppl who's releases I'm leery of, as they've dissapointed consistently for quite a while. the both come across as being dislikeable to me in recent interviews I've read, and I guess they both have in common a tendency to get a bit ideological/rules-bound about music/recording, which I don't like either.
