Destiny's Child?!?!?!? Classic or Dud

Somewhat inexplicably, their name keeps getting mentioned here, when to my ears, they're nothing but cookie-cutter, generic cheese-whiz R'n'B with nothing to offer the world but bitchy 'diva' behavior, cliched/overzealous vocal stylings and wretchedly stupid lyrics. Their new single, "Survivor" is not only cloying and numbingly repetitive, but it's just the rehash of the middle-eight of their *LAST* single, the equally-annoying "Say My Name." Why are people snowed by this watered-down pabulum? Are they really offering something that's new and different or even well-executed? Do they really have anything relevant to say beyond gratuitous self-aggrandized rhetoric? Didn't we hear all this stuff already in the form of the vastly superior En Vogue? Granted, Beyonce's a decent looking woman, but B.F.D.! PEOPLE, THEY'RE CRAP! RAISE YOUR STANDARDS...or convince me that I'm mistaken.

Duplicate C-O-D - could anyone answering answer on that one please?

Tom, Tuesday, 1 May 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oops. Sorry about that, but be fair...it's now May and Destiny's Vile Offspring are now even bigger and more insufferable than they were in January when that thread originated, possibly warranting a further appraisal. Or not.

Oh yeah, but a further appraisal on the same thread ;)

This is a point actually - do people read ILM from the front page or from the new-messages page. I do the latter and most of the people I've chatted to about it do too, so resurrected threads showing up there don't get missed.

Nothing to do with Destiny's Child, but I personally don't read the new answers page because it keeps showing me threads that DON'T have new answers, telling me that there are new answers. No matter how many times I read them and say, "Oh, that's not new, that's from three days ago". So I go through the front page, which means that if an old thread gets new answers, I miss it completely, unless someone tells me about it.

It really doesn't matter, but I thought I'd answer Tom's question.

I think we should all resurrect old threads anyway. There are loads of good ideas that can be tacked on to old threads which never realized their potential, rather than starting a superfluous new thread.

six months pass...
Every time I go--correction: went*--to the gym, I would have to hear them on the radio. I say dud, from what I have heard of them.

Reading the question again, it strikes me that Alex in NYC would make a really good sports coach.

I always, always enjoy when Alex in NYC posts an insane rant and Tim comments on it. You guys should start a joint blog together.

to the tune of the chorus in "survivor": i am an android; i am a robot; i am a robot; i am an android... and so on (unfortunately thought whilst drunk roughly 5 months ago - haven't escaped it yet) you can dance like a robot while you do this (optional extra). and i wonder why i don't have a girlfriend?

That's fantastic, I wish I was there to see that.
