Never been a *HUGE* fan of the `Lips (although I'm quite enjoying their new one, YOSHIMI...), but Built to Spill have always bored me to tears, so FLAME ON!

LIPs! The new one's fan-the-fuck-tastic, makes me wanna live forever.

wouldn't Flaming Lips vs Ween be better? or would that be too indistinguishable?

I hate both of these bands, but at least Built to Spill has long guitar solos.

BTS's one of those situations where I frickin loved them and much much later someone described them as "emo" and I went back... and thought about it... and they totally are! I guess I didn't - and don't - listen to many other bands with that type of whiny vocal (that personally I trace to the Violent Femmes) but anyhow that new bit of knowledge doesn't change my idea of the songs at all. The one with the smiley face is still one of my favorite records in the world. Whereas, if I'd known there was this "emo" thing I'm sure I'd hate it and I'd hate anything tagged with it in advance. There'd be another hurdle, say, and I doubt I'd a jumped it. I'm too judgmental. I'd imagined BTS with a whole different set of - less loathsome - signifiers. Maybe I actually thought they were the guitar-god super-group that they gestured towards? I don't know. Their posters were bad-ass.
