Anyone know anything about the personal life of Belouis Some?

Anything at all. I'm writing an essay: 'Belouis Some's "Imagination" is essentially snide; discuss'. I've got the snide bit down - I just need some padding - who he's dated, previous bands and connections.

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

'Imagination will make a man of you'.

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

his real name is Neville.

MarkH, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

How you spelling that?

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

He has an esoteric rattle - like a baby's rattle, only more esoteric.

Roy Blows, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep. I've heard about the esoteric rattle. I plan to mention this when I initially define the terms of the question.

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not more esoteric than a death rattle, is it? I know it was seen kissing Vidal Sassoon in Peter Stringfellow's 'Tramps' nightclub, and that Benjamin Pell like's its bin; but I don't know if it's more esoteric than a death rattle. Is it?

Roy Blows, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for the Vidal Sassoon gossip. Like you, Roy, I don't know where it is in relation to death's esotericism.

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Obligatory mention of Ned Raggett here.

Sally Comedy, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

His agent put Belouis up for the role of the English baddie in Young Americans. That's a good good show. But the producer's were put off by the artist's esoteric rattle, which they thought would ruin takes.

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

How young are the Americans? Esoteric rattle-young or just rattle young?

Jim Sweeny, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

John Candy died the same day as Bill Hicks, which makes you wonder what 'Planes Trains and Automobiles' would have been like had Bill Hicks played opposite Steve Martin. Or opposite Belouis Some, indeed.

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Obligatory good-humoured follow up mention of Ned Raggett, to make the conditions absolutely perfect for a contrubtion from Ned Raggett in person.

Sally.Com, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Bill Hicks would refuse to sell those shower curtain rings and might opt to wear the devil costume (worn by John Candy in the scene where their hired car is spinning out of control) for the entire movie. Snirk.

Glenda, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Like it, dude -- you rock!!!

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Pardon?

Glenda, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Like it, dude - you rock!!!

Si, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

My head hurts.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused Si, Did you choose the title yourself or did a tutor devise it? I presume the former but if it is the latter then you probably need look no further than your tutor for the conclusion.

Or is it for a magazine article? if so I'd love to read it when you've finished but I'm afraid all I remember is that his visual image was somewhere between Glenn Gregory and Holly Johnson and that the lyrics of "Imagination" were quite interesting in a Bowie sort of way.

Kris England, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't he have his own Swatch Watch??

brg30, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember there being lots of nudity in the video for "Imagination".

electric sound of jim, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, actually: one of the few things I do know about Belouis' personal life is that he owned a Swatch Watch. Every now and then he attempts to sell it on ebay, but his reserve price is way too high; and there's something awfully suspicious about a watch from 1985 which has the original batteries in - bidders wonder if they may have leaked.

Si, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and Kris: don't be confused. I hope this helps.

Si, Wednesday, 14 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You are all wasting your time.

Plunging Hen, Thursday, 13 November 2003 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to the extent that the NME were in 1986 when they were sticking Mr. Some on the front cover and describing him as a prodigious, multi-talented genius ho posessed chameleon-like qualities that were surely destined to make him the next David Bowie.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"a prodigious, multi-talented genius ho"!!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry that wasn't meant to be snidey stewart, it just needed to be pulled out of context!!)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Also (and I sincerely hope this isn't too late for Simon's deadline) I'm pretty sure he had "relations" with a young lady called Karen following his performance at the Majestic in Reading that year.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hah! You thought that was a typo and I'd meant to right "who" didn't you Pash?!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I did, yes!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Obligatory mention of Ned Raggett here.

I still don't get this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"I did, yes!!"

Well.... you were right!

Oblique reference to Ned to perplex him still further.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

If I'm right and Mr Some did sleep with Karen on that fateful evening, this would have assured his inalienable right to assume his natural place alongside such other luminaries as (to my knowledge) Adam Ant, Billy Idol, Gary Glitter, Youth out of Killing Joke, A UK Sub, an Angelic Upstart, one of Eddie's Hot Rods, at least one K9 and (of course) me.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 13 November 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

how did this essay ever turn out?!?
