Let's try this again. Last time I polled Low's discography a couple years ago, a bunch of the poll options disappeared from the results (What is the best Low album/release?)... and I'd like to see what actually comes out on top here.

Now, VOTE!! :)

Man. This is just as impossible as last time.

StanM, Sunday, 5 September 2010 16:34 (fifteen years ago)

You're making me listen to all of this AGAIN (thanks, though, it's been a month or two) and I already know I won't be able to choose. :-)

StanM, Sunday, 5 September 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I understand, I've got it narrowed down in my head to like... 5-6 short-listed contenders?

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Sunday, 5 September 2010 19:00 (fifteen years ago)

It's going to be one of the albums, imho.

StanM, Sunday, 5 September 2010 19:02 (fifteen years ago)

'Secret Name' or 'Things We Lost In The Fire'.

I used to jump no question to the latter, but the former has been really dawning on me this year.

krakow, Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

I almost voted for Things We Lost In The Fire purely as a reflex, but then paused and looked through the list... I probably play Christmas the most, and playing it signifies the start of the Christmas period for me, so maybe that?

things we lost in the fire vs. drums+guns for me

one of my favorite bands of all time and i've only ever heard 4 records, so much more left to go

life liberty and the fursuit of happiness (diamonddave85), Sunday, 5 September 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

drums 'n guns

a hoy hoy, Sunday, 5 September 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

Curtain, same as last time.

I never realised VNV Nation sounded like the Pet Shop Boys before (aldo), Monday, 6 September 2010 06:28 (fifteen years ago)

I've put everything on my mp3 player (including all those gorgeous Low shows on archive.org) to listen at work, but now I find myself listening to Darkspace instead. Not quite the same thing. :-)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Trust.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 11 September 2010 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

I hate voting against all the other albums, but ultimately, I picked D&G.

StanM, Saturday, 11 September 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

Impossible: I Could Live in Hope, Secret Name, Things We Lost, Great Destroyer, Drums & Guns. I vote for those 5. Last time this was polled I voted for Things We Lost since that was the first one I got into. Tonight Great Destroyer gets the nod.

Fire

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 12 September 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

Great Destroyer

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 12 September 2010 12:32 (fifteen years ago)

one of the last two albums -- probably drums and guns.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 12 September 2010 12:54 (fifteen years ago)

I went with 'Things We Lost In The Fire'.

Quite surprised at the apparent preferences for the more recent outings.

krakow, Sunday, 12 September 2010 13:02 (fifteen years ago)

feel pretty stubborn picking curtain, because it's neither as consistent nor as much of an album as some of the others, imo. but at the same time it better defines what i like about them, and seems strikingly, archetypally slow and low-ish and heavenly. so it wins out.

i could pick trust, too, maybe protectively because it seems to have a bad rep; it's so muscular and cold and spooky.

FORTIFIED STEAMED VEGETABLE BOWL (schlump), Sunday, 12 September 2010 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

I agree on 'Curtain', its my choice too. It just sums up everything great about early Low for me.

Also suprised at all the love for the recent releases. Mind you, I thought that Drums and Guns was excellent. The Great Destroyer never did much for me though.

AnotherDeadHero, Sunday, 12 September 2010 13:19 (fifteen years ago)

It's not that I think that the newer ones are bad, a long long way from it, it's just that the other stuff is so monumentally, astoundingly great that, in my mind, they simply do not compare.

krakow, Sunday, 12 September 2010 13:41 (fifteen years ago)

doesn't seem right to pit albums against singles and comps like this. I voted curtain. could have been that box set though.

akm, Sunday, 12 September 2010 14:27 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Sunday, 12 September 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

I've always suspected that most people's favorite Low album is also their first Low album.

Hideous Lump, Sunday, 12 September 2010 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

forgot what i voted for, would have been trust or curtain

happy that dead pilot got no votes. that album put me off low for years

outback bumfuc (electricsound), Sunday, 12 September 2010 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

Understandable but still a shame that Temporary Relief didn't get any votes. It has some tremendous, irreplaceable tracks but it's not designed to win votes in a poll like this.

that's not my post, Monday, 13 September 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

This seems about right. My personal preference would swap Curtain and Hope, I've never really paid much attention to the former -- but given these results perhaps I should.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Monday, 13 September 2010 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

hope or possibly curtain for me. i actually find it hard to enjoy anything the band released this last decade. particularly the last couple.
